***Official***Match #36 - Australia vs England - November 4th - Ahmedabad

Out of form? Just no game awareness. Both Malan and Buttler just gifted their wickets. You are not chasing 400. These T20 idiots have no value of strike rotations! Hit the gaps and run hard build partnership to take the game deep.
Agree they should be rotating, but when the guy at the other end has stalled, the pressure builds.

He’s not seeing it out though, he’s getting us miles behind the rate.
It was 7 an over with Jos at the other end. If Jos has lost his head because we need 7 an over then there’s only one guy you pin that on and it ain’t Ben Stokes

You can catch up with run rate in last 15 overs if you keep wickets in hand. Getting out instead of absorbing pressure is a sign of a loser with no temperament or patience aka T20 players.

He doesn't bowl off spin.

You would rather him in the batting line up than Moeen Ali and Livingstone though as they aren't much better than tailenders on recent form.
Brook isn't replacing either Ali or Livingstone. It is straight swap with stokes. Stokes who is injured and playing like an old men, and can't even bowl. So adds no value. Brooke is young more fluent, in form and can run hard between the wickets. Brooke was the only one who looked apart against Afghanistan spinners.

Not rocket science is it. As someone has just said to me, all Jos had to do was stay in

Interesting

AUS 117/4 (23.1 overs)
ENG 106/4 (25.1 overs)

11 runs and 2 overs behind the aussies, may not seem a lot but see my earlier post or simply this

HS in World Cup 2023
Ali 15
Livingstone 27
Woakes 14
Willey 16no
Rashid 20
Wood 42no

if they were all to repeat those efforts that might be enough, 136 runs plus whatever else Stokes scores, but not promising. If aussies stop trying to get through their 5th bowler allocation and push for wickets they can get through the 5th bowler overs either from one end or later. If it gets to the last 6-8 overs and they aren't home and hosed then not sure it matters who bowls anyway

play sensible, 1s and 2s, hit bad ball for boundaries and maybe look to be more positive when the 5th bowler (allocation) was up and begging

RRR is up to 7.51 though and the batting a bit thin after top 3 although to be fair Stokes had played only a three innings and 43 was one of them

but only if the "wickets in hand" kept are going to do much more than score 10s-15s

besides which the aussie 5th pair scored 61 off 9.5 overs, about their overall rate, difference is England aren't bowling so they have more good bowlers to face and can't just see off Zampa, Starc, Cummins AND Hazelwood or they'd need to score like 130 off around 10 overs of Head, Green and Stoinis

England must be the only team in history who score faster in tests than in ODIs
Its just a matter of time before they get a reality check in test cricket just like they did get one with ODIs. That aggressive approach has looked go so far, but its not sustainable.

Agreed Jos played stupid. Just had to bat deep at a decent rate . You can score 100 the last 10 with wickets in hand now the lower order and all rounders have to take the responsibility

King Kane

International Debutant
Nasser still bravely giving England a chance, got to admire his optimism.

They aren't without a chance while Stokes is still there though.

Jonny, Joe and Jos are probably our three greatest ODI bats. What do they average this WC?

We are not talking about seeing anyone off. With field spread out, its not hard at this level to rotate the strike. Convert the dots into 1s and 2s, no need to counter attack and risk losing wickets for that.
Its not hard to run the ball down the third man, run hard and pick up occasional boundary. Its called normal cricket.

Buttler is in England's top three ODI bats of all time easily. Less sure about the other two. Debatable.
