Good tussle for a change, nice to see us actually competing for once in the tournament.
bit early to say that, for one England have a breakdown of batting totals as below, and for two aussies have two top batsmen set having been 38/2 and for three England's batting 5-11 has done as little if not less than aussie 4-11

England batting efforts
300+ : 364/9 vs BAN (won)

210-290 : 215 vs AFG (lost, pretty ugly/badly), 282/9 vs NZL (lost heavily),

100-170 : 170 vs SAF (lost heavily), 156 vs SRL (lost heavily), 129 vs IND (lost heavily)

inserted twice, W1 L1, chose to bowl three times, lost two so far. Opted to bat once, lost that one in scoring just 156 against contender for worst side (BAN/ENG/SRL)

now 108/2, England need to take wickets, wait until the game is getting away from them to bring on Rashid - typical England tactic, try and get through second rate spinner overs first when on top rather than go for sense which is try and get aussies/whoever 100/4 and make it easier for the bowlers, harder for the batsman.

given my earlier stats on aussie 5-11 they get through this pair and they have a chance, as long as their own 4-11 don't show as bad as they have so far

Michael "former England but still captain obvious (as well as downright daft, and other things)" Yawn 'thinks' aussies are targetting Ali, why wouldn't they pick off the weaker links.....?!?!?

England's last 4 totals have been 215, 170, 156 & 129.

Australia may already have enough.

England will fight hard to restrict Australia to 260 before getting bowled out for 150 imo.
Rinse and repeat the India game probably yeah. We'll struggle with Hazlewood and Zampa and fail to rein the attacking instincts in.

I think this shows exactly how top-heavy Australia is, 3/114 isn't a poor position but it almost feels like 5/114 right now.

pretty much writing on the wall and England scratching around for something to clean it off with

have been out in the mid 100s three times, one effort chasing over 200, their best efforts and why it is puzzling they opt to bowl were batting first with one over 270 and one over 350 - then again winning the toss seems to be a poisoned chalice for most, could be 36 games gone and not a 10th win toss and win game combination.

England's lower order a classic tale of "good on paper", fact is I've never rated Woakes as a batsman, he is like many before him a good batting bowler down the order, bound to get a good score every now and then, but more a DeFreitas than a Botham
