***Official***Match #29 - India vs England- October 29th - Lucknow (D/N)

Always a big call bowling first when you have one of the poorer attacks in the competition that are also lacking in confidence and form because the opposition can just bat you out of the game.
I am beginning to reconsider who is worse between Babar and Buttler as a captain

Reckon India are going to score 370-380 and England will fold like a row of deckchairs. I'm all for confidence in your players but an unchanged side when they were so abject last time is bold. Bairstow is very lucky, as is Woakes (and Wood). I'd have brought Carse and Atkinson in.

They blamed the heat against Sri Lanka

Clearly the heat has gone to his head again.

I think Buttler is on the take or something

Absolutely zero logic to the decision. As our bowlers are not going to restrict India to a score we have any chance with.

Woakes has taken 2 wickets @ 80-odd this WC. A damning indictment of England's bowling resources that he's still getting a game here.

Players who are likely to be there in 2027-

(their age in 2027 in brackets)

Bairstow (38) - no
Malan (40) - no
Root (36) - maybe
Stokes (36) - no
Buttler (37) - maybe
Livinstone(34) - maybe
Moeen (40) - no
Woakes (38) - no
Willey (37) - no
Rashid (39) - no
Wood (37) - no

So 8-10 members of the starting XI won't be around.
I think Buttler is the only player that realistically will be around in four years, probably still as captain. I would encourage these guys to retire on their own terms or start to move them out actively. The guys you bring in need as much game time as possible before the next WC. Pick a core of younger players and place some trust in them as results might initially be an issue.

Yep. I think Willey has been ok, but Woakes had been really poor and Atkinson had looked decent in his previous game. Carse being available is another option. Woakes had also batted dreadfully in this tournament so far too.

England don’t want India to chase I suppose. Is there going to be dew around?

Don't think there's a hope Buttler with be around in 4 years time. There's a whole heap of franchise cricket that'll he'll be involved in between now and then.
Fatigue, Burnout etc

Plus he'll in all likelihood be diminishing as a batsman. Very reliant on hand eye

Yeah the Woakes batting depth gimmick is pretty mythical these days.
