Buttler's only 33 too, one of the best ODI cricketers of all time and doesn't play red ball cricket. Dire tournament so far obviously but I'd be backing him in to still be there for the next World Cup (though probably not captain).
Yeah, he obviously stays, but not necessarily as skipper (although he did win a T20).

Tour to WI coming in December (3 ODI's, 5 T20's), hard to see the likes of Bairstow, Malan, Root, Stokes, Moeen, Woakes, Rashid, Wood being anywhere near the ODI leg if at all.

Yeah I do think there should be a cleanish break from those who very obviously won't be there in four years. Teams are often pretty bad at that for a year or two after the tournament, but it's especially important for England given the amount of cricket they play and the fact that a lot of those players could still contribute more in Tests or the next T20I WC. No use burning them out in JAMODIs if they won't be there in 2027.

Root's an interesting one. Even younger than Buttler but hasn't had a great time of it in ODIs lately and is pulled in lots of different directions. Probably better for everyone if he just announces his ODI retirement. He can always do a Stokes if he still wants a hit in four years.

I have lost my love for watching England and now will only watch the World Cup when this spineless mob are not involved

The way this WC's going should make it easier to make a clean break. Thanks for the good days chaps, but we want to move on now. I don't think many of them will be complaining.

If he just concentrated on Tests he'd end up the 2nd highest run scorer ever.

It might be interesting to see who actually makes themselves available for the December Tour.

You'd hope that half a dozen or so would do the decent thing and announce their retirement after this shambles is over. And lets not coax them out of said retirment in four years' time.

Pretty crazy that Mathews was just a replacement for SL when their 2nd best ever and is still churning out runs in tests
