***Official***Match #25- England vs Sri Lanka- October 26th-Bengaluru(D/N)#BottomDwellers

I think @Burgey mentioned earlier the ageing Aussie team, well as a result of us leaving out Brook and Atkinson, this team is entirely over 30 (first time ever for England).

For the remainder of this campaign, may as well leave out those won't be there going forwards. Bring back Curran, Brook, Atkinson and include Carse.
That Brook is first reserve in this side (or a starter) is bizarre. His List A record does a disservice to the word 'average'. Likewise, Atkinson has played 6 List A matches, four of which for England. We're picking guys on their T20 records or on a hunch.

True, but we did have to endure losing all 3 in the UAE and comfortable home loss against SA with all the embarrassing in-fighting first.
England should have won at least one of those 3 in UAE, it was a strange series.

This is the weird period they kept not selecting Panesar in the opening tests of sub-continent series.

Worth a look at this team and who is likely to come in moving forward. Hain should be a no brainer, the likes of Salt, Jacks, Rehan probably too.

That's always going to happen when our best players don't take part in the domestic 50 over cup once they've established themselves. Certainly with Brook, anyway. Perhaps Atkinson is a slightly different story.

I don’t think Atkinson is different really given he played in the Hundred

They won't need Mathews. One partnership and this is done.

No real signs of how this could possibly be a 150 pitch.

Why is wood in the team if he is not taking wickets.I know he has been poor so far but we need wickets and his pace is our only hope.if butler does not trust him why play him

@grecian made the same point a few days ago, which is one reason why we're reading about Crawley replacing Buttler as captain.
Add Pope and Brook to those guys and you have the making of a decent top order, even if there appear to be too many openers. I said at the time that I'd prefer Durham's Ollie Robinson instead of Jamie Smith. Maybe keep Livingstone in the frame as a twirler who doesn't get a nosebleed batting at 7 or 8, although I know he's done precious little to deserve a place. And I'd keep my boy Atkinson in the frame.

Buttler's only 33 too, one of the best ODI cricketers of all time and doesn't play red ball cricket. Dire tournament so far obviously but I'd be backing him in to still be there for the next World Cup (though probably not captain).

England will struggle in this format for years to come because the 50 over domestic cup has been downgraded for the Hundred. The ECB won't admit it though.
