He's a gun IMO.Madushanka bowling well here. Unlucky to pick up a wicket
Rajitha was good in the previous game vs Netherlands, picked up 4/50 ..These are just two gun odi batters , one of which survived an lbw decision ..It can happen that they get off to a flyer . Would have liked Chameera though for his paceThe first 4 overs have summed SL up though, Madushanka is a real threat but there's not much at the other end. Doesn't seem to matter who they pick as the other new ball bowler.
If only Mark Ealham was willing to come out of retirement. The big issue at the moment is the lack of a real seaming all rounder, one whose main strength is batting. Ironic that Australia have 3 at the mo and England basically have none.
Imagine if Stokes had come out of retirement for this tournament. If only Mark Ealham was willing to come out of retirement.
Actually apparently Pathirana was withdrawn with injury, so scratch that last part. Stand by the rest though. He's a gun IMO.
As dire as Sri Lanka are at the moment I am looking forward to seeing how he, Pathirana and Wellalage develop over the next four years given they're all so young. Hopefully they stay fit and Sri Lanka actually play ODIs.
I'd be very tempted to play the latter two in most of their remaining games if they lose this one just for the experience of it (would have played Wellalage today as well tbf).
I said main strength batting........but then I'm not sure bowling was his either!!If only Mark Ealham was willing to come out of retirement.
I get the logic of coaxing him out of retirement for one last tournament, as he is such a big-game player, but any planning just goes out of the window. And his inability to bowl is a massive problem.Imagine if Stokes had come out of retirement for this tournament.
I know a guy from our team would have done it again just to prove hes rightImagine if England had decided to field first again
I don't believe that. They must have somehow sent him back as soon as he got carted around in the first 2 matches. Same with ShanakaActually apparently Pathirana was withdrawn with injury, so scratch that last part. Stand by the rest though.
That ODI side in Sharjah that had A Holliake, Fleming, Dougie Brown and Ealham was probably the best side England had until 2015-I said main strength batting........but then I'm not sure bowling was his either!!
I did hear he'd picked up an injury against Pakistan but they left him in the squad for two more games until yesterday when they decided they wanted to play Mathews in this game. I believe he was injured but I don't really believe he'd have been out for the whole tournament with it.I don't believe that. They must have somehow sent him back as soon as he got carted around in the first 2 matches. Same with Shanaka
It was certainly the most successful, albeit in a tourny without Aus and SA. And to be fair the same side did get wallopped in the Caribbean a few months later. I think it may have been the first time we seriously departed from the test side with our ODI eleven. fwiw I still think the team in the 1992 WC was pretty good. That ODI side in Sharjah that had A Holliake, Fleming, Dougie Brown and Ealham was probably the best side England had until 2015-
