Right decision to leave Brook out. England need Livingstone and Ali for batting and bowling depth and someone has to miss out. Not sure about Woakes and Willey - think Atkinson is unlucky.

Oh dear!
Really not sure Moeen and Livingstone really offer an upgrade over Root's bowling. I would've only gone with one of them - Livingstone for me.

Livingstone was excellent against Afghanistan with the ball but can disappear to all parts on his day as we know

Yeah Moeen used to be a frontline bowler but isn't really anymore. I think he, Livingstone and Root are all similar standard and they all bowl flat offies so I'm not sure having three of them to make up 10 overs is really an upgrade on having two of them to make up 10 overs. One as fifth bowler and one as sixth is fine IMO.

That said I don't think Brook has worked out fifty over batting yet anyway so meh. Moeen's record in between World Cups was so bad that I just have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about how bad he'd become.

I did find it funny that you said "Willey should never bat 7 again" and Molehill replied with "I disagree, Root should never be sixth bowler again" - and they picked picked Livingstone and Moeen for a batsman and a bowler so that you both got what you wanted.

Yeah so does Root when he really feels like it (but they're garbo tbf). It's one of the reasons I'd have gone with Livingstone over Moeen, aside from the fact that he's a better bat.

I don't think there's that much lost with Brook out though. One of the problems with Willey at 7 was actually psychological - top order wouldn't have trusted the depth. They probably trust Moeen more even if they probably shouldn't these days.

The big issue at the moment is the lack of a real seaming all rounder, one whose main strength is batting. Ironic that Australia have 3 at the mo and England basically have none.

Yeah as much as I rip on Stoinis he'd actually be vaguely useful for England.
