The top 3 look set. Australia also still have the 3 minnows to face going to be hard for the teams behind them to Chase

Australia have a favourable schedule ahead so I think they will make it. They should finish with 6 wins imo. Worst case scenario is 5 wins.

Meanwhile New Zealand have 3 back to back tough matches against Australia, South Africa & Pakistan.

New Zealand could lose the first 2 vs AUS and SA and then have to win against Pakistan and Sri Lanka to qualify with 6 wins! If they fail to win one vs either Pak or SL, they'd finish with 5 wins and have to fight on NRR.

They've looked amazing so far but I also think SA could choke and mess things up

I'm trying to do mental gymnastics to imagine a scenario Afghanistan qualify

England could finish on 5 wins too and so could Pakistan (tho unlikely) but NZ's NRR is so far ahead that as long as NZ loses by small margins they should be able to secure 4th with even 5 wins.

Yes Afghanistan could finish on 5 wins too.

They have SL and Netherlands next. Winning both gives them 4 wins.

Their last 2 matches are vs AUS and SA. Win the last one vs SA and they have 5 wins and possibly an okay NRR.

South Africa have 3/4.

They have Ban, Pak, NZ, Ind & Afg

If they win 2/3 vs Ban, Pak, NZ. Then I could see them lose their final 2 matches and end up with just 5 wins.

But their NRR is so healthy that they are safe! They'd have to lose a couple of games by 200 run margins.

all in all I think it is very likely that the top 4 will be Ind, SA, Aus, NZ. Just that we are not sure who will finish 4th from the latter 3.

Looking pretty likely 5 wins gets NZ/SA/India there with their NRR. And even though they're looking average - bar one huge opening stand - I'd back Australia for 4th spot given they've got a softer run home and generally always beat us (yes, I know - 2015 World Cup round robin...wasn't that a dominant, confident chase by us)

The motivation for us is obviously to win games to ensure our semi spot, but also to finish 2nd/3rd and avoid India in a semi.

If only Afghanistan had beaten Bangladesh at Dharmashala, they could have had a decent chance of getting 6 wins.

I don't think India would want to face South Africa at Wankede for the Semi Final. And probably not want to face Australia there either. So unfortunately that leaves them with NZ for the semi.

Mumbai pitch is so suited to big hitting teams like SA and Aus imo.
