Good comparison. Two very successful defensive no3 bats that both occasionally struggled against pace/bounce. Both played mostly in batting eras too.
Barrington did have the advantage of playing almost his entire test career from the age of 28 to 37 but his overseas record is startlingly good.

If there was anything Rahul never truly mastered, it is this. Ball seemed to get off the shoulder of his bat more often compared to other ATGs

Yeah I’d probably choose Barrington for his incredible away record

What are you on about? Averaged higher away, won test matches for India in England, Australia and Pakistan at a time this was a very rare event. Had arguably the best series for an6 Indian batsman ever outside of India in England 2011

Barrington averaged 70 away in the same era as Sobers including 70 in Australia.
