*Official* Match#7- England vs Bangladesh

Strongly positive too. Minnow bashing is essential for qualifying. Pakistan only beating Netherlands by 80 runs could cost them, even more so if they lose to SL.
The margin of victory is irrelevant to NRR. Which I always thought was how it was based.

It's about how your run rate minus the oppositions run rate.

As far as I can tell if a side say was 20 all out from 2 overs, you'd have to knock them off faster to have a positive NRR.

That surely can't be right?
I must be missing another variable. As just looking at South Africa/Sri Lanka NRR that doesn't work.

The logic works for Englands games pretty much.

Englands NRR was -2.149 after having a 2.14 worse run rate than NZ. Then we had a 2.59 better run rate today.

That would give us a NRR of 0.45 but we have ended up with 0.553 🤷‍♂️

I should go eat my lunch instead of posting on the internet

There's other calculations to take into consideration, but if you win you must be at least be + something for the game.

If a team is bowled out, their total is divided by 50.

If you chase a total down, your RR is taken.

So in your scenario, if you've scored say 250 batting first, and bowl a side out for 20, you get an NRR boost of 4.6 (I think). Similarly if they're bowled out for 20 batting first, then if you do it in 4 overs that's your boost.

And just to confirm that, if you look at the table here you can see the for and against.

Taking England for example, their 'against' number features the 36.2 overs it took for NZ to chase down 283, however, the Bangladesh total is given the full 50 overs despite being bowled out in the 49th.

I've always just ignored NRR, but as we started off so poorly this time. Felt had to get to grips with it.

Lesson for me is think before posting something as fact, when I don't actually know what i'm on about

Topley was a great pick this game not sure he would have been picked had England beaten NZ as well. Currans the guy to go if you want Moeen back in the team, I’d legit give Wiley a go in this team as well think he could be better in the middle and death overs than Curran and Woakes don’t think they need as much batting once Stokes is back in

Congratulations to England for winning the game. It was always coming. I am not too disheartened because it felt like its the match that we were going to **** up big time. Looking forward to rest of the matches. Im not too unhappy with the team selection. Its the best XI we could put together except maybe Tamim senior.
