Top 4 Predictions

Cricviz thinks South Africa are 4th, and that NZ are closer to Sri Lanka than they are to the semis. It also gives Afghanistan an above 1% chance of winning which feels like an overrating to me. I could see a Bangladesh win a couple of times in a hundred but would say Afghanistan have a chance that rounds to 0.

India 21.9%
England 17.3%
Australia 15.6%
South Africa 14.1%
Pakistan 11.6%
New Zealand 8.5%
Sri Lanka 6.8%
Bangladesh 2.9%
Afghanistan 1.3%
Netherlands 0%
Not a massive CricViz hater, but I think this underrates the Big 3 significantly tbh.

Think England might bomb out in the group stages. Batting, bowling and fielding inferior to 2019. Ageing, injured squad won't enjoy all the travelling either. Paradoxically I'd still have them second favourites to India. They have the know-how, confidence and relative lack of pressure to win knockout games should they make it that far.

4 of India, Australia, England, NZ and Pak definitely make the semis. There is a slight gulf between them and the other 5 teams.

It's strange when you hear players ages get mentioned with tiredness due to travelling ect. I know reflexes, pace and stuff slow down in your late 30s, but these guys are only 34/35 they don't get tired getting planes around any quicker than a 25 year old!

I'd go for

1. India
2. England
3. Pakistan
4. Australia
=============
5. New Zealand
6. S Africa
7. Sri Lanka
8. Afghanistan
9. Bangladesh
10. Netherlands

The beauty of this WC is you can make a strong case for any of the top 7 teams to make the SF.

Also unlike some other WCs, apart from the Netherlands, there are no easy games.

Both Bangladesh and Afghanistan can and will cause an upset.

Not the first to say it, but have had a real feeling about SA for a while now. Quietly been building a quality team. Will be tentatively rooting for them.

India should be faves though. That will be the final.

Unfortunately, i think it will be the same top 4 as the 2019 world cup.
Pakistan was looking really good prior to the asia cup, the team looks so off after naseem's injury..

Big 3 + nz. Although i hope South Africa makes the semis instead of NZ this time, NZ always reach the semis and the final nowadays

Can't believe half the people were writing New Zealand off (forgetting that they've made back to back finals in World Cup and they always make at least the semis no matter what).

And once again they should now make the top 4 :)

Sri Lanka to spring a couple of surprises and then finish 5th after losing to one of Bangladesh Afghanistan or Netherlands.

Think Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Netherlands all capable of knocking over a top-6 team, but don't think they can be consistent enough in this very-long-format tournament to make the top 4.

So the semi-finalists will be from the other 6 teams. It's hard to go past India, Australia, England, NZ.

Well they've played eight world cups before without making the final haven't they?
They've had ATG players like AB de villiers/Klusener/Kallis/Donald /Pollock and yet they haven't cut the mustard so to speak. Why should they now?
Not that I think they're bad, they have some exceptional talent, but there's just better teams around atm imo.

What does that have to do with anything? None of those players are playing. You aren't your nation's history.

It's hardly an outlandish prediction in the context of these teams playing at this tournament in these conditions. Not sure there are many better. India yes, NZ and England maybe but neither of those teams convince me atm either despite the former's strong showing in one game.

In before LOL CHOKERS, well England were hardly a paragon of tournament consistency until last time out. Things change.
