Jadeja is a work in progress. Hard to rate him, could be a flash in the pan.
Ridiculous take to make for a 34 yo bowler who's played 67 tests.

He's overrated on these forums as a meme, sure. But he's a quality test AR, already secured a spot as an ATVG. And could go ATG, if his recent form trend continues.

Especially if his batting continues to improve there's bo doubt he enters the pantheon of great ARs. His bowling is a bit more tricky to rate, but I think he's easily a top 10-15 spinners, depending on how far back you are willing to go.

Steve Smith is an ATG right ?
Jadeja has done him so many times , and Michael Clarke before him who was also great against spin ..
he's absolutely quality.

Food for thought:

If Bangladesh played the same number of tests that England plays at home per year, Shakib would be equaling Murali’s record in his next match.

He is a country great. If he can help India win a series in South Africa with all round performance, he will go down as ATG. If there isnt much for him with bowl there, he must contribute well with bat and help India win a series as SA are a depleted side.

Nah. If he continues on his current track without something significant away from home, he will go down as a merely good but severely limited cricketer, a great in his own backyard, and then non-Indians will be surprised when they see his overall averages because they just assumed he wasn't a big deal based on what they saw when he toured. He doesn't have the cumulative numbers of Ashwin to press his case either.

A guy who can't win a game away from the SC isn't a great spinner no matter how you want to spin it, no pun intended. It's a disgrace to put him near the top 10 frankly but I get why certain posters here are enamored with 'cheat code at home' cricketers.

I’m not sure I disagree with this conclusions, but cricketers do play half their matches at home and they count too

Jadeja plays two thirds at home which is unusual.
It is not that unusual.

Some examples of % of home matches.

Gooch - 62.72
Lillee - 62.86
G. Chappell - 63.22
Trueman - 70.15

For Jadeja it is 59.70. It might fall further too. Abdul Qadir's too is exactly the same.

Even among his peers, Shakib has 66.67%(exact two third).

Ashwin's is 58.51 and Anderson's 57.38.

Yes but all three of those players are demerited in our analyses for the same reason. Especially Lillee.

Yeah, but your point was that it is unusual right, which is clearly not the case.

I only searched random examples, pretty sure there are far more in the same range of home match percentages if we dig further.

Define unusual. I would say the norm is closer to 50/50 for most major international stars.

And the discrepancy in his record towards home for both batting and bowling makes it further unusual.
