He should have been in the original squad. As for learning something, the most relevant has to be that Milne has recovered from his latest injury and is bowling very well. Will be a good replacement for Southee if he doesn't recover.
Well clearly the learning can be used for the next World Cup when Milne is 35!As for learning something, the most relevant has to be that Milne has recovered from his latest injury and is bowling very well. Will be a good replacement for Southee if he doesn't recover.
Don't think he would have actually played even if fully fit in the playing 11, but a better option than jamo if needed for injury cover. I believe he's mostly there as the team-man/senior player/leader/coaching/cheerleading/lapdancer ala kyle mills wc 2015. Any excuse to get him on board cuz its tim southee the untouchable.Absolutely ridiculous. You’ve got a guy performing the way Milne is, and you obstinately forge ahead with a bloke with a broken thumb who usually gets taken for plenty even when he’s fully fit. And Jamieson is the one hovering around to step in if it all turns to custard.

‘Tim Southee has been cleared to travel to India as part of the Black Caps’ Cricket World Cup squad after having surgery on his broken thumb last week.
The veteran seamer is aiming to be available for the team’s opening match against England in Ahmedabad next Thursday.
Fellow seamer Kyle Jamieson will join the World Cup squad in India this week as cover.
He will only be able to train and won’t be involved in the Black Caps’ warm-up matches against Pakistan on Friday and South Africa next Monday.
Black Caps coach Gary Stead said last week that Southee would “have some pins or screws inserted in his right thumb”.
“Providing the procedure is a success, it will be a matter of ensuring Tim can tolerate the pain and manage the actual wound when returning to train and play.
“Our opening game of the World Cup against England is not until Thursday, October 5 in Ahmedabad, so that would be our logical target in terms of his availability.
“Tim’s obviously a hugely experienced and important figure in our team and we want to give him every chance to be part of this World Cup campaign.”’
Sodhi brought himself down to earth really quick…he was bowling full tosses down leg side.Don't think he would have actually played even if fully fit in the playing 11, but a better option than jamo if needed for injury cover. But yeah all of a sudden, sodhi and milne looking like better options. Its just 1 game mind you, but still better than southee who hasn't had any good ODI games in the last month. And who knows, maybe he could have looked good here just like milne and lockie have in BD. Also, Sodhi got brought down to earth real quick today, lol. Other than santner, henry and boult, its still looking quite grey for us with that 4th bowler. Milne needs the new ball these days to get wickets but no way he gets the new rock over bolt or henry.
I believe we really put the faith in lockie and back him. Seems like a stronger character than milne and sodhi in tournament matches and has great success/history in them as well.
I'm convinced they just have a spreadsheet with columns of player #1, then their back-up, and backups backup in column 3. but none of those can be backup to anyone else.Yeah, not sure what Milne's role would be in the team anyway. He's looked excellent with the new ball but it's hard to see him getting a callup over Boult-Henry, and he doesn't really have the pace anymore to perform the enforcer role (not that he was ever particularly good at that to begin with). But yes, Jamo being the traveling reserve ahead of him is nuts.
I would still love to see him get a crack in the test side this summer.
So you're saying that Southee plays ahead of HenryI'm convinced they just have a spreadsheet with columns of player #1, then their back-up, and backups backup in column 3. but none of those can be backup to anyone else.
I.e. Milne is backup to Henry. Lister to Boult. Jamieson to Southee.
Was just going to mention...fkn guy averages 61 in his last 4 odi's! Stead is working overtime rn to make sure a chapman, neesham or philips "accidentally" slip over a banana peel down the stairs in the next few daysYou all know now that Stead is cursing the fact he can't slide Nicholls into the side after runs in this series
Yeah, I mean Jamieson's ceiling is really high, but we haven't seen enough to select him on. If someone went down, I'd certainly want Milne over Jamieson. It's another instance of 'the player must fit the team template, we can't change the template to fit the players'. Jamieson might improve, and we'll need him to as the rest of our bowlers retire over the next few years, but right now he's a terrible white ball bowler.
Haha to be fair, Nicholls is a battler in the right conditions. If it was a dungey old Bangladesh deck or one nipping around, you'd happily have him at 5. To score runs in this series is a credit to him, he's made tough, hard earned runs. That says a lot about who he's always been as a player. But on flat decks, there's plenty of batsmen with better outputs. Was just going to mention...fkn guy averages 61 in his last 4 odi's!
