Nah. India were pathetic away in the 90s yet they still had Laxman, Ganguly, Tendulkar and Dravid. Similar in the 80s when they had Kapil and Gavaskar.

It's only when they peaked respectively and you had the right captain that results came 2000s onwards.

And the point is, Pakistan did win when their stars lined up.
BUmrah and Shami have a better winning record overseas than the Ws or Imran on an absolute basis, leave alone adjusting for longevity. The Pakistani pacers are better on paper, the Indian pacers have a lot more to show for themselves.

Wasim and Waqar were washed up and Shoaib a hot mess when they toured in 99.

Pakistan from the mid 80s till end of millenium won multiple times in England, NZ, and SL. They won in India. They drew against 80s WI and 90s SA. They won the Asia Test Championship in 99. The only place they struggled relatively was Australia.
And they lost to Zimbabwe

Sooo everybody is ok with these two statements.....
What's wrong with what I said?

They included Bumrah in the first XI and by right he shouldn't be ahead of Srinath or Zaheer.

So if we are taking his short career performance at face value, then Asif, Fazal and Shaheen would be formidable.

Asif was the best new ball bowler I have ever seen and many here can attest to that. Shaheen is also a very fine new ball bowler whereas Waqar at his peak was not.

Hence my statement was reasonable.

Pakistan's Second XI may be better than India or SL too.
Pak’s first XI will win at a neutral venue prolly. But in SC conditions, if you include Jadeja in the XI instead of Kumble, I’d back Ind to win, cause of the better spin attack, and superior players of spin. Pak’s second would be nowhere as good as Ind’s first XI. Bumrah, Dev and Shami are clearly better than Shaheen, ans Bumrah and Dev are better than Asif as well.

With Imran as captain and with himself as an ATG bowler, his pace quartet will annihilate most of the ATG batting lineups on any surface supporting conventional or reverse swing. It is overkill.

Even on a dead pitch, he would get a fresh Shoaib on for a three to four over spell and give him full license to break bones and wickets at full pace. None of the bakwas of Inzi holding Shoaib back.
On SC surfaces tho an Ashwin Jadeja combo would be even more lethal, accompanied by Bumrah and Shami who also have great records in SC conditions.

Bumrah is clearly better as right of now than Srinath or Zaheer. Bumrah has had great performances in Aus, Eng, WI, SA and at home as well, already.

Based on what, just Australia?

Or are you going to ignore the fact they they toured five times in Eng/SA/NZ, lost four and drew once?

It would be better to pick these teams from only those who debuted AFTER Sri Lanka became a test team, so remove Gavaskar and Kapil from India as well as Hanif, Imran, and Miandad from Pakistan.

It depends on where in the SC. If you mean current spiced pitches at home then yes I favor India.

If we are talking concrete wickets in Pakistan or even pitches in SL where Pakistan pacers have dominated then Pakistan First XI wins.

Kapil has a lot of wickets(400+). plus the first half of Kapil’s career was pretty pretty good(189 wickets@25, great performances in Aus, WI). So maybe not as of yet.
I don't get this. If it's longevity then stick to that but don't selectively pick the good part of his career and ignore the other.
