Yeah, but it's got to be the best youngsters in the country playing for SA Emerging otherwise it can have the opposite effect and weaken the cricket system ..I like the initiative of the emerging side playing in the b division:
SA youngsters given One-Day Cup opportunity
SA Emerging head coach Malibongwe Maketa says competing in this season's Division 2 One-Day Cup will grow South African cricket's talent pool.www.sacricketmag.com
I mean why would you replace a specialist bowler with an allrounder when they've already added andile p.Phehlukwayo I understand, but Lizaad Williams ?
That makes absolutely no sense , how do you look at the squad with another chance to improve it and STILL make the same mistake ..
Lizaad Williams has only played 1 ODI game and took 1/62 , he isn't express pace (Used to be quite sharp in his youth before injuries) and he can't bat either , how has Rob Walter and his panel gone yep this is among the best 15 in the country ..
We could have gone for Eathan Bosch or his brother Corbin , another all rounder like Mulder , George Linde ..Really disappointing .
Marco Jansen and Phehlukwayo are more No.8's than No.7's ..so Mulder could have fitted into the team or Corbin Bosch if they wanted a proper all rounderI mean why would you replace a specialist bowler with an allrounder when they've already added andile p.
I agree, it's quite unlikely but this is a team that could win the thing.I don't get the pessimism here, honestly. You guys have a good team, with the best middle order in the world cup while being able to carry 5 genuine bowling options and plenty of guys with professional experience in india.
All of this is despite the administration and selection policies, and the 6 batsmen 5 bowler method may not hold up at the WC, but you guys have a very solid chance of making the semis.
Lizaad Williams took 1/62 in his only ODI game , he missed the entire CSA One Day Cup last season because of injuries , he only averages 29 with the ball in his List A career and he's a No.10 at best ..I agree, it's quite unlikely but this is a team that could win the thing.
Batting is solid and if the batting fires, we'll be getting 400+.
Ngidi looks like he is getting back to his best form, Maharaj (especially) and Shamsi are bowling well, Rabada is Rabada, and even Coetzee isn't going to disappoint us.
I maybe wouldn't have taken AP and LW but Walter knows something we don't. He didn't decide to have them while having his morning pooh, they've obviously thought this through and looked at stats etc.
Look, I'm not getting my hopes up, because as Bane tells Batman, only the man who has hope can feel true despair.Look we have enough quality that if half the squad clicks on a day we can beat anyone. But we are Protea fans,we know how these World Cups usually end. It's a mixture of caution and pessimism.
The stats of the Bosches aren't much better though, and neither has played an international match. So, why would you rather take them?Lizaad Williams took 1/62 in his only ODI game , he missed the entire CSA One Day Cup last season because of injuries , he only averages 29 with the ball in his List A career and he's a No.10 at best ..
Whatever Walter knows I would love him to share with us .
Cause of the make up of our side ..and I'm not going off just on stats either I know the players I'm advocating to pick and I know Lizaad Williams, and this is a bad pick ..Corbin Bosch averages 39 with the bat at a SR of 103 ..If you had him in the squad you can have Marco Jansen at No.8 and Phehlukwayo as cover , the downside is that Corbin is a bit expensive but he bowls 140+ and I think he raises his game for the big matches from what I've seen ..The other option is Eathan Bosch who averages better than Lizaad Williams with the ball and bowls at a similar speed (135-140) and can bat as he averages 29 ..also when Netherlands toured here earlier this year he was the pick of the bowlers for the Sa invitational side with 3/20 ..And he had a strong One Day Cup last season , was voted the best young player in the SA T20 league ..The idea of having subs on the bench is having options , Lizaad Williams would just be a straight swap for Ngidi where as guys like the Bosch brothers you can play around with combinations even if someone is not injured. The stats of the Bosches aren't much better though, and neither has played an international match. So, why would you rather take them?
And who cares if he's a No 10, he's getting picked as a bowler. If you're worried about how many runs your 9, 10, and 11 are going to make, you've already lost.
