Thoughts on this comparison?Okay I'm here early so prediction time!
Miandad 15-7 Boycott.
Evenly matched. Boycott was a great opener but his scoring rate was very rigid. Miandad was a great middle order bat but has a decent home/away gap with the home umpiring controversy in mind.Thoughts on this comparison?
This is what I hate though. You have one standard for Hutton because you like him and then criticise all other slow batsmen, regardless of era etc.Miandad for me, not a fan of these super slow opening batsmen.
Yes I know my favorite did the same, but as some pointed out different era and physical limitation after the war.
Played against significantly better and varied competition than Hobbs and SutcliffeThis is what I hate though. You have one standard for Hutton because you like him and then criticise all other slow batsmen, regardless of era etc.
Also screw this war storyline, Hutton injured himself in training and never went to war. He had a couple of years playing club cricket to rework his technique before first class cricket resumed, let alone test cricket.Played against significantly better and varied competition than Hobbs and Sutcliffe
Love the mental strength it required to break Bradman's record with the great man staring him down and O'Reilly coming at him.
Love even more what it took to return from the devastating arm injury he sustained during the war, which would have required some change in technique and capacity.
I don't exempt him because I like him, those are the reasons I rate him.
The training was during the war for said war, but that's semantics. Also screw this war storyline, Hutton injured himself in training and never went to war. He had a couple of years playing club cricket to rework his technique before first class cricket resumed, let alone test cricket.
Should have boycotted the pollAs a Boycott hater this one is easy
Like Warne’s toenail and Tendulkar’s elbow. The training was during the war for said war, but that's semantics.
Reworking a technique, after rehab and what not couldn't be that simple and had to be somewhat of a handicap going forward.
