*Official* New Zealand tour of UAE and England 2023

What a weak-gutted capitulation from New Zealand. But if you are losing T20 matches to the UAE, how on earth can you compete with England in their own back yard? A fit-again KW will at least add a veneer of international class to the current NZ dog and pony show…can’t believe the merkins who want him dropped from the T20 side.

We were terribly mismanaged in the 1990s also.
Unfortunately Warren Lees was scapegoated for leaving the SL tour after bomb blasts. He was doing a great job. Then Howarth had not enough discipline and Glenn Turner had too much. It was only when Rixon came in that things turned around.

About right. The Crowe/Rutherford wars didn't help, and then the odd appointment of Germon. Rixon and Fleming turned things around.

Jonny just seems much happier than he did back in July. Backing him for a huge WC

There's no room for Kane in a properly selected full strength NZ T20 side. It would improve the captaincy though.

Hopefully Southee is "rested" for the last 2 T20s and Santner given the captaincy.

If you’re after a laugh this morning, re-watch Tim Southee’s post match interview where he says we have a young team and they will learn from this 😂

One guy 25 and under, another 29 (with plenty of international experience) And then Seifert at 28 and Phillips at 26 who have played over 100 games between them.

The 7 other players, all over 30. Has Gary Stead ingrained this team so badly with his boring, dads army approach that the team actually thinks having more than one guy under 30 constitutes being a young team? 🥴

Yes, laughable. But the alternative, although true, doesn't make for a great soundbite if you want to keep the captaincy: 'poor selection policy and zero vision over a number of years dictates we're more than a bit sh*t at the moment'.

Surely the key stat tonight was seeing three Surrey players take wickets in an innings for England. My guess is the last time that happened was in the 1950s with Laker, Lock and Loader.

Seifert I agree, he should be in his prime and doesn't seem to cut the mustard against international bowling. Allen definitely has the raw materials but the timing is right for a dropping - needs to figure out a gameplan a bit more targetted than "smash everyone all the time".

How does he have the ‘raw materials’ though? Feels like the equivalent of saying a long drive champion has the ‘raw materials’ to be a top golfer. Allen can bosh a 6 but when has he shown the skills to actually be a good batsman? Being able to select and execute the correct shot to the ball coming at you is like the #1 raw material of batting and I don’t see Allen having it.
