Mass brain damage inflicted by the intent meme. Run scoring was really hard on this pitch and having somebody capable of building an innings properly was crucial. You end up 55-8 without somebody like that. Fakhar Zaman will get you a run a ball 150 on a road against Bumrah when he's on but he's just as likely to get out looking like Jimmy Neesham fending outside off.

This match instills a lot of confidence in Shadab Khan at #7. That really gives the team an ideal balance. He's not Klusener but a low 30s batsman who can hit out from ball one and also arrest a collapse is pretty much as good as #7 returns go according to some recent Statsguruing. On the flip side, the batting getting choked by quality spin is a glaring issue. Babar needs to sort out his technical issues ASAP.

Also, praise be to Rauf for taking the third seamer spot from Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf.

This is not true.
Imam never oozes confidence. Rizwan doesn't know how to bat in MO in 50-over cricket & he is the only established wk in PCT. Only way we can get most out of him is if he opens the innings. That leaves Imam out & Saud in.

Rizwan doesn't know how to bat in MO in 50-over cricket.

Before he got picked he was smashing tons left, right and center in domestic List A and 50 over A team matches for like 2 years. He's a terrific runner between the wickets, dominates spin and picks gaps against pacers very well. There's no reason why he won't be a quality middle order batsman in ODIs. It's not his fault Pakistan play very few ODIs. Even today he looked like the most fluent batsman before he copped a very good ball and a very harsh umpire's call. Plus he's very mentally tough too.
