Disagree.
NZ should've won the last tournament and would've been due to the having by far the best 5th and 6th bowlers (CDG and Neesham).
Nah they should've dropped one of them for someone who could hit more boundaries tbh.

I definitely think it's important to make sure you have a sixth bowling option, but they just need to be non-embarrassing and bowl a couple of overs in the middle of the innings to give the captain flexibility. Tilak looks alright to me but I do think he would've bowled more if India were looking towards using him in this way.

Fifth bowler needs to be a real bowler though IMO.

Whatever it takes!!!
Well he wouldn't be good, but I don't think the sixth bowler has to be good. Just has to exist as an option without bowling fithly long hops or full tosses really.
Also, he will be the seventh bowling option. Still one less than what I would want ideally in a LO side, but we are so scarce of multi skilled cricketers here in India.

I was floating him as potentially the sixth tbf.

I think it'd be fine if the first five were genuine frontliners but both Hardik and Jadeja wouldn't get picked on bowling alone so it's probably too risky.

almost no team does only 5 frontline bowlers these days tbf its always 6 bowling options out of which 2 minimum are bowling all rounders with one batting in the top 6 for good reason unless you have a freak all rounder like Stokes before his busted knee or Green. even South Africa nowadays have Markram as a legitimate batting all rounder and they were the poster child for trying to get by with 5 bowling options alone in the past even if that meant the 5th one was Duminy

unless Tilak establishes himself well in the national team he won’t really develop his bowling on his own due to the fierce competition for spots and unless he shows he bowls of a decent standard he would be too risky as a 6th bowler, its a catch 22 situation

I'd think about bringing Kishan in for Thakur there instead but it's definitely a bit risky, it might depend on how well Hardik is bowling. Verma's probably an acceptable sixth bowling option but having both Jadeja and Hardik in the first five is more of a problem. Thakur in white ball cricket doesn't exactly inspire confidence either but he might be needed for balance because none of the other quicks can bat. Why isn't Chahar in the wider squad? Just out of favour?
Chahar is too injury prone he can’t even stay fully fit for an ipl season and like Bhuvi once he recovers he takes some time to get back to bowling at his full speed

really annoying because he has possibly the most swing extracted from a white ball among our players and was finally developing tools to bowl at the death but even as a new ball bowler and lower order hitter he could have been handy

Most likely, the squad chosen for Asia cup will be the squad for World Cup with 2 guys cut off. So from that squad, below is my XI to start the WC.

Rohit
Gill
Kohli
Iyer
Tilak Verma
Hardik
Jadeja
Thakur
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Siraj

Reserves
Shami
Axar
Kishan
SKY

Dropped: KL Rahul, Prasidh. Really hoping that KL is not 100% fit come WC time
Are you assuming Rahul isn't fit? His numbers at #4/5 since the last WC are fantastic. Tilak is talented but he has no place being there. There's not even a frontline keeper in your first XI.

Even AUS don't use green to play 5 frontline bowlers, tbf. AUS usually slot green in at 7/8 as a bowling allrounder, have him and maxwell float based on game position then pick 2 frontline pacers + zampa and jam a few more bowling options in the top 6.

many of our fans dont rate Rahul because he hasnt shown up in a big enough moment in any tournament including ipl and has an obnoxious attitude

but i agree he has done enough to have a secure spot as middle order keeper. Tilak is in many fans hopes for numerous reasons not limited to - being the batsman that can bowl they all miss from the times of 90s and 2000s, seeing him as Yuvi reborn, wanting a lefty and most importantly because he is the shiny new toy

Why not pick kishan then? I prefer him as an opener, but if you want a #4/5 left hander with a second skill, he seems like a better choice than tilak.

@CricAddict just forgot that he didnt pick a keeper lol he has Kishan in his other XI he posted later

your team does it because your 7 best batsmen also happen to have all rounders in them i guess just like England picking bowling all rounders to give batting depth just because they happened to also be their best bowlers

In t20 cricket ye, not in ODI. Stoinis isn't amongst the 20 best ODI bats in Australia and we keep trying to sling him in because of t20 form and one knock 5 years ago.

I am more in favor of playing specialists than half-all rounders.

6 batsmen (including one who can bowl a few)
1 All-rounder
4 bowlers

England should have picked Brook and batted as low as possible. Bowling is for chumps. Go for the Cricket equivalent of you score 4, I'll score 5.

Roy
Bairstow
Malan
Root
Stokes
Buttler
Brook
Livingstone
Ali
Curran

I know Rahul is frustrating and it's fashionable to hate on him, but SKY's ODI record is absolutely putrid and he neither keeps nor bowls. Rahul for all the KLPD memes he averages 45+, can either open or bat in the middle order and doubles as a reserve keeper. He's a much better squad utility option than SKY.
What's memes?

It's happening isn't it? The nightmare scenario. Shardul Thakur playing world cup.
