That ab doesn't deserve to be there if we are talking about the 20 greatest odi ever played

Does the '96 WC SF between Australia and Windies have any business being talked about in the same breath as the '99 SF?

Bevan had an almost identical performance and Warne had very similar figures(though he took bigger scalps in '99)

The team totals were very similar too, despite it being less of an even arm wrestle like in '99. Windies had their foot on our throat twice and kinda choked twice. They had us 4-15 and let us still get 200, then were like 2-160 and lost. Pretty crazy

But why not to? He is the second greatest ODI batsman ever after Viv and so some of his knocks are bound to feature in every list.

And the bolded part is funny.
seems like he is a Sachin h8r

its fair game to include a match with his legendary knock if AB gets one, knowing cricinfo they will do it anyway because they know it will get them more clicks from the Indian crowd

Pretty easy to identify jelly Sachin haters. It's usually the ones who dont like it when he's referred to by his first name for whatever reason.

The Sachin 175 game vs Australia is probably a better contender though. Real thriller and one of the last JAMODIs I felt some kind of emotional investment in.

Great game. I'd argue there was some real low quality involved in West Indies' choke though, some incredibly ugly hoicks. The SA choke was one moment of madness but felt like a more high quality, epic tussle all the way through.

Not a hater at all. It was the attempt to shorhorn him specifically into the list that amused me. Imagine I said "hope x or y makes it" - it would be pathetic. Those knocks deemes top draw will make it, some will miss out. Only 1 set of fans will cry foul if a given SRT doesn't make the cut.

These are not cricket fans, they are Sachin fans.

To expand on the point, saving "I think x or y" is absolutely fine. It is the hoping [pining] for it so that 1 guy gets on a list which is ridiculous.

I'm glad this got a mention at number 18.

The background info is all well and good, but it's bizarre that the author barely mentions Lloyd's blistering hundred, which was about 15 years ahead of its time in terms of SR, and made against a really strong Australian attack.

EDIT
This match from the 1975 WC probably won't feature in cricinfo's list, but it was the first great ODI.
There's lots to enjoy here, but the stand-out feature was the famous 60-run 10th wicket partnership between Murray and Roberts to win the game when WI looked out of it.

The 99 SF was more constantly high quality cricket, not just a big choke at the end. The match was swinging from one team to the other since the start. Also from a broader point, it was a match between the two best ODI teams of that era, and kindly of poetically paved the way for Aus to be the best ODI team in the world for the next 8-9 years. Also it was what was the most characteristic of each other, the Aussies’ penchant to win whenever it mattered and do it regularly, and SA’s choking whenever it mattered, was crystallised in a single match. It was the single best game in ODI history

Yeah, it was more a personal story about the first World Cup generally, rather than the final specifically. Either that or all his detail on the final itself got edited out!

Clive Lloyd is the most under-rated ODI cricketer of all-time. I frequently pick him up in my ODI drafts but in general, I don't see him getting picked early by anyone.

Probably the first genuinely ATG ODI innings tbh. Such an incredible knock
