Both of the above are probably true, but I feel like it could be bringing those new people in without the gimmicky rule changes. The franchises, summer-holiday timing and vigorous marketing would have been enough, IMO.

Oh absolutely. And I still believe this was driven by the BBC who have limited time available to offer for free to air broadcasting.

I actually think some of the gimmicks are more complicated than conventional T20 - bowlers being able to bowl two overs (refuse to call them sets) in a row, changing ends every other over etc. To be fair they do add an interesting dimension but given the goal of getting people into cricket it will probably confuse someone new to the game then decides to watch a T20i later in the summer.

They still don't appear to bowl their overs/sets any quicker despite changing ends far fewer times, and they still have strategic timeouts. All a nonsense. As well as that it is nuts that they don't seem to show the score that the other team got. All they show are the number of remaining balls and runs to win. The graphics are nonsense although this has been mentioned loads of times.

For the first time saw a bit when it rained at Carlisle on Monday and I was forced into the pavilion. Didn't understand what was going on, or who was playing, graphics seemed to make it confrontational between bowler and batsman. All a strange mix of colours. Lacked context completely for someone who was a casual observer. I guess you have to be there, and feed of the 'excitement' but it gives the impression it is only about six hitting.

And now with Colin Ackermann as the latest injury replacement (for Alex Davies), it is clearly all about short termism. Is he even the best bet to take from Leicestershire?

Without barely watching a match, how are all these players seemingly getting injured. So many replacements.
There are only 200 balls a match, if you are lucky.

I thought if you weren't selected you could go back and play for your county, is that happening.

Man, there needs to be a separate thread for county fans posting the same moans about the Hundred on repeat.

In that case we should have separate threads for every subject. Loads of threads have people moaning about something.

Paul Walter is easily one of my favourite county cricketers. Will never play internationals but a very good county pro - a lanky and powerful batter and a surprisingly sharp bowler, short trousers, and lovely foppish hair.

Why Daniel Sams getting so much hype? Typical T20 no rounder in my mind.
Been in really good form recently. In england he's taken 10 wickets @23 and made 90 runs @ 22.5 and a sr of 170 in the hundred, and before that made 419 runs @29 and a sr of 170 in the t20 blast and also took 25 wickets @21. Also played in MLC and played a few handy knocks with the bat their.

Not sure if it's gonna last, but it seems like his batting has gone from occasional BBL meme to genuine 6/7 level and he's taking wickets as consistently as he used to in the BBL. Needs a solid IPL season or another 6 months of good form before I'de look into this too much, though.

Yeah he still gets absolutely pumped with the ball sometimes but his batting has definitely become more reliable.

And he always takes random jammy wickets even when he's getting pumped.
