***Official*** The Hundred 2023 Thread

In that case we should have separate threads for every subject. Loads of threads have people moaning about something.
Given there's retirement threads for players who've only played a handful of international matches, this forum could probably accommodate separate threads for:
- the graphics are awful, make my eyes bleed
- why are the Whoarethey Sillynames nicking my county's seventh best player to warm their bench rather than let them play in the One Day Cup?
- they could've just marketed the Blast rather than set up this rubbish
- I turned on the TV and when I squinted really hard I saw some empty seats at the top of the Oval; the Hundred's a failure!

Clearly there is a need to exaggerate to try and make a point.

The hundred was designed to get more casual interest in cricket, right? From the very small bit of data i've seen on that it seems like it's not achieving that goal.
Really? Have you not seen the size of the crowds compared to the CC, ODC and even the Blast? The biggest grounds in the country are pretty much full most games. It is patently obvious that there are people being drawn to it who were previously not interested in cricket. And don't give me the "oh, but marketing and free tickets" argument. I am bombarded by marketing emails from my county on an almost daily basis for Blast, ODC and CC matches, and I have not been able to find any free adult tickets for the Hundred at Sophia Gardens, despite there being no sell-outs.
Also, as a junior coach, our club has seen a huge increase in numbers over the last three years. We now have girls' teams in most age groups when four years ago we had none. Coincidence? Who knows.

and at the moment it's not driven away the cricket obsessives either.
I would class myself as one of those. Grew up with nothing but test cricket on telly in the 70s. Played at various levels all my life. Brought my kids thought the club system. Now coach juniors and umpire as well as playing. Served for several years on the committee . I love the Hundred. Not only is it good cricket but I can see the benefits it has brought to the club game. Would I have loved a re-vamped version of the Blast? Yes! So what?

I'll admit this has grown on me.
Absolutely. I was initially sceptical, and I still think that it's not perfect, but it's the nonsensical objections of the old-school buffers that brought me here. I remember people making all the same objections to 50 over, and then 20 over games, as well as coloured kit (pyjamas!), music, fireworks, etc. Decades later cricket is still going strong, if not stronger. People need to think of the game rather that their own personal prejudices.

I'm still not a fan of the format and the gimmicks but there's nothing else on and there are some quality players in the tournament.

Bopara with the greatest spell of prank mediums seen since Simon O'Donnell and Chris Harris. Goes against everything I believe about LO bowling. Not a single ball over 60 mph.
