jacks has had a bad county season with the ball. dawson is a no brainer pick to india. Maybe Will Jacks can play at no.7 if Stokes still doesnt want to bowl.
Totally agree, Dawson has 28 wickets at 18.5 and is averaging 35 with the bat too. He's 3rd in both wickets taken and runs scored at Hants.

Jacks is averaging about the same with the bat but has 5 wickets at 50!!

This decision shouldn't even be close.

Dawson is definitely the most experienced pick they could make. His last Test was six years ago, but he didn't disgrace himself in the three Tests he played (far more economical than Mo/Rashid in that Karun Nair match, and took wickets at home to SAf). He has something of the bridesmaid about him, so it's possible he'll be overlooked despite a strong CC season. All the 'frontline' spinners have either declined or just not been selected - Parkinson, Bess, Virdi, Moriarty, Patterson-White - which makes it more likely they'll fudge it. But I can't see how Dawson doesn't get a place.

Surely Josh Bohannon cant keep getting ignored, he is yet again amongst the leading run scorers this season. Has a brilliant average for an English batsman and plays spin well.
Pope has already proven to struggle alot vs spin, cant be picked as the no.3 over Bohannon or even Dan Lawrence

Wouldn't be surprised if we get one or two leftfield selections out of nowhere just because McCullum and Stokes like the look of someone, like they did with Josh Tongue. Maybe one of the young spinners coming through like Shoaib Bashir?

Are any future stars amongst the under-19 squad playing Ireland and Australia this month?

England Men Under-19s squad: Ben McKinney (Durham, captain), Farhan Ahmed (Nottinghamshire), Tazeem Ali (Warwickshire), Charlie Barnard (Lancashire), Luc Benkenstein (Essex), Jack Carney (Lancashire), Keshana Fonseka (Lancashire), Henry Hurle (Glamorgan), Eddie Jack (Hampshire), Dom Kelly (Hampshire), Mitch Killeen (Durham), JT Langridge (Somerset), Henry Rogers (Sussex), Hamza Shaikh (Warwickshire), Noah Thain (Essex), Ross Whitfield (Durham).

Farhan Ahmed is Rehan's brother. Dale Benkenstein's and Neil Killeen's boys' are in the squad too.

McKinney did well out in Aus. He was the top run scorer of the whole series.

Used in all 3 formats. Durham just gave him first senior deal today 2 year contract. Will be playing the one day cup, hope he does better tomorrow than Tuesday. Dragged on for 5.

Very big lad he's an opener but being used middle order, as Durham well stocked upfront.

Pope's the v/c so I assume he's back in as soon as he's fit. I think his injury came at a good time in the Ashes and it allowed them to play Mo and accommodate Stokes' injury. I agree, his play against spin isn't great and I think he's usually flattered to deceive at this level. His average at FC level is very much a 'home' one. Personally, he wouldn't start for me in India and I'd rather bat Stokes at three if he can't really bowl. Haven't seen enough of Bohannon but can't argue with the numbers. Lawrence I'm unsure of tbh. Not had a great season either.

Seen a lot of Bohannon & Hain on the live streams. Both are impressive & look the part. Sam Cook, & young James Rew also. Seen a fair bit of Dawson as well, scratched my head how he didn’t play for England this year. Smith of Surrey another one.

James Rew needs a couple more seasons I think. Hameed was probably the last teenager to really score big and was rushed in. But his time will come soon. Smith will probably take the gloves in the longer term.

I don't really get that unless he takes the gloves for Surrey in the FC games. I suppose that could happen next season if Foakes is reinstated in the test team, but I don't know how likely that is.

I tend to agree with you about Rew though. The other candidate is surely Durham's Ollie Robinson.

What I don't know is how good any of these are behind the stumps.

John Turner, the Hampshire bowler, is in the England T20 squad. I have literally never heard of him. South African born/raised but now qualified for England. What's he like?

I didn’t join the dots when I saw the squad but I’ve just looked him up and he was outstanding at the death for Trent Rockets the other night. I wonder if he’s been picked purely on that.

Fair play to him. I assume he played for South African under 19s and was spotted there. I can't think of an England player who was selected off the back of two years of FC cricket (and 30 games across all formats).

Had a really good season in the blast as well.

Definitely a red ball prospect as well though, doesn’t look like a white ball specialist at all, a bit Hazlewood like.

New pace bowler catapulted in, immediately shows he's injury-prone, it seems a constant.
One Saffie out, another comes in. Carse looked promising in the COVID Pakistan series but hadn't looked good in the Hundred. He's got pace though and his batting has really come on. Doesn't really mean much as a series though.
