Australian Domestic off-season 2023

Shield cricket pushed further off main grounds (news.com)

"The Sheffield Shield will kick off in the opening week of October, with the final to be played from March 21. The MCG will host just two games, as will the Gabba in Brisbane, while three matches will be played at both the SCG and the Adelaide Oval. All of Western Australia’s home games will be at the WACA"

Should make the gap between Shield and Tests even greater? Imagine someone from WA making their test debut in Perth on their "home ground" and they've never played on it

A grim trend for sure, but by no means a particularly new one
I remember when they started to do an odd game at Border Field or trialed some country games to build interest but until now I didn't know it had gone so far the other way with so few games on main grounds

Got a marketing email from the Renegades about signing Lyon. Replied “This makes me less likely to go to games, not more. Lyon is a dickhead”. No response.

Any word about who's in the A team to play NZ later this month? I assume it'll be same squad as earlier this year

If it's a real A team I'd have Inglis, Green, Murphy, Harris and Renshaw in there

Edit: just saw white ball tour of SA at same time so Green and Inglis would be in that. Would still be the place to see Warners replacement

T20 captain to be announced soon, any tips?

I read Cummins won't be in T20 squad vs SA due to his injured wrist. Does that make Marsh the next captain?

T20 and ODI Teams announced.

T20: Marsh (c), Abbott, Behrendorff, David, Ellis, Hardie, Head, Inglis, Johnson, Maxwell, Short, Smith, Stoinis, Zampa

ODI: Cummins (c), Abbott, Agar, Carey, Ellis, Green, Hardie, Hazlewood, Head, Inglis, Marsh, Maxwell, Sangha, Smith, Starc, Stoinis, Warner, Zampa

Hardie in both squads is a big move, plus Warner and Green not in T20? Resting after Ashes I guess but Smith, Head and Marsh are in both

This is the preliminary 18 man world cup squad as well.

Pat Cummins (capt), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa

Final WC squad will comprise only 15 players.

No Marnus in the 18 is a bit surprising but it's a good call IMO. I'd cut Hardie, Abbott and Sangha from that.

They stuck with Marnus for a few too many series, he needed to go

The XI will probably look like this:
Head
Warner
Marsh
Smith
Carey
Green
Maxwell
Starc
Cummins
Haze/Agar
Zampa

But I'm really not convinced that Cummins is in the best XI, I'd rather see Ellis tbh. They might play Stoinis too but that would be a mistake.

There are so many bowling options in there that Aus could potentially do what they did in the Top-End ODIs v NZ and play an extra batsman with Green or Maxwell at 8, but making up 20 overs from the likes of Marsh/Green/Maxwell/Head might be a bit much

Australian XI is the best ODI XI in the world atm, particularly in Indian conditions. IMHO Australia are bigger favourites to win the WC than even the hosts even though experts will blindly keep saying it's India. Aus have so much depth in batting + many destructive batters + vast bowling options. It doesn't get better than that. There's a reason that they tend to win bilateral One day series in India.
