For New Zealand I'm no expert but I feel McCullum has to be there , like his contribution to the NZ side is way too massive ..

Pretty straightforward really. Last bowler pick the only tricky one. Woakes would obviously be very much an at home pick.
Feels weird for me to call it since I spent the best part of 4 years bagging him but for his work post-lockdown Mark Wood might actually deserve a call. 74 wickets at 24, most of it away from home, giving the attack an edge that more outswing from a Woakes or say Hoggard wouldn't. Batting not as good as Woakes obviously but has probably had as many important innings for England, just missing the ton and a few not outs in comparison.

That said if you were to pick someone for a relatively short burst at the top Harmison might make more sense.

Yeah I was thinking Wood or as a really short burst Simon Jones.

I would include Flintoff at No.8

My theory is that with Stokes in the side, Flintoff can worry about bowling as fast as he can and be a bigger threat . Then you have the world's most dangerous 6-7-8 combo

Everyone so far has picked him, but does Trott get in ahead of Bell? Peaked higher I guess but has ~1/3rd of the Test career Bell did.

Bell sucked at #3 I think
His average at 3 was 38. Not amazing but certainly not that bad.

I do bag Bell a lot but the problem with Trott was that he was only really good for about a year and his total Test career was rather short. Honestly I'm not really convinced he actually did have a better peak than Bell did - Bell around 2011 was a seriously good batsman.

Pretty meh but depends a lot on how to current lot go.
I'd drop Kaneria and play an additional seamer - Gul, Amir or someone. Pakistan's haven't had many stars emerge. SSA seems special and Naseem looks gifted but the last *wow* quick was Akhtar. Pk shaping up ok for the middle term now.

Bell was definitely a better batsman than Trott imo but I feel like #3 is a specialist spot. Root has been Not Bad at #3 too.

One of those where his record at 3 is lower than his career average, but he mostly played there at the lowest points of his career anyway (start and end), so hard to separate how much was due to position and how much because he wasn't in his prime.
