2 completely different things though. Absolutely nothing wrong with the Bairstow stumping, that was a nothing turned into a controversy. The ball change however was a blatant, and decisive, error.
Bairstow incident his fault.

Ball incident being made out it is England's fault yet we did nothing as never chose the ball.

I think the point is that England have been accused of having a moan after the Bairstow incident by the righteous Aussies who would never do such a thing.

Ponting has had a great series and been one of the best commentators, but he's ruining his reputation with this charade.
Ponting isn’t wrong as the condition of the replacement ball bore no resemblance of the original

Pretty dissapointing result over the series to be honest. England probably outplayed us and to be fair, I can accept it when Root, Stokes, Broad and Woakes put in a brilliant performance but letting guys like Duckett and Crawley score so many runs with the same poor tactics was infuriating

Pattinson 🤣

"The first ball of the 61st over, delivered by James Pattinson, was a full toss which moved drastically on its way through to Tim Paine. The ball swung 6.43 degrees, over two degrees more than any other ball has moved in the air all Test match, and his first two overs with the ‘new’ ball contained seven of the eight balls with most swing in the Australian innings so far."

I was dead on.

I actually saw a rumour that the biggest difference wasn't the age but that that particular box had balls from a much older batch, i.e. not from the last two years where the Duke has been a sponge. So more than the age it was the hardness that was different, which would explain why it didn't ever go soft like all the other balls in the series.

Australia bowled a grand total of 37 maidens in 5 tests

It’s impossible to build pressure if you’re gifting batsmen runs by having 4+ fielders on the boundary every ball

It was just 5 successive Odis and we somehow got away with that ****

Interesting stat I just read was that Australia actually hit more boundaries in the series than England. But that was down to the field placings, by the 3rd Test England realised you could go at 5 an over by just taking the easy singles that were on offer.

Makes sense. The balls from a few years ago kept swinging all the way through

This is what the Wisden article suggested about the ball Australia got in 2019 too.

"The ball moved so much that some pundits thought it must have been from last year’s batch of Dukes balls, which swung throughout the innings, and which suited England’s seamers so much the ECB requested this year’s Test balls be made to the same specification again. However, it has since been confirmed that it was a ball made this year."

One of worse ashes series in modern era. badly out of form Australian team almost beat peak England at home, playing only 60% of their best cricket!.

Level of play-
England 100%
Australia 60%
Results 2-2

^Bad look for England cricket.

Overall this been failed summer of cricket for England can't even beat ageing Australia team on home soil.

In fact England hasn't won at home against Australia since 2015.

Australia been extremely disappointing in last two matches of the ashes and series overall. However WTC title and retains the ashes mean overall successful tour without Gold 🌟 star.

Cummins needs to step down as Captain and head to become new Captain. While Australia need to wake up start playing more Aggressive test cricket like England.
