They've been fantastic - would have loved a performance half as good as this in Dunedin last night.

But it'll be good to see one of the hosts go through, at least.

The question now is whether Nigeria can find a winner against the Irish. Whoever comes 2nd will probably play England, which I doubt either team would want.

What every team needs to qualify (groups D, E & F).

Group D

England are through at top the group with a point. If they lose to China they will still get through if Denmark fail to beat Haiti, but if Denmark win by at least 2 goals they can go out to China on goal difference or head-to-head in a loss.

Denmark are guaranteed to go through if they beat Haiti by at least 2 goals, as they'd be bound to be ahead of the loser of England-China on goal difference. If they draw with Haiti then they go through with an England win, or if England-China is a draw with equal or fewer goals than theirs. If Denmark lose they have to hope China lose by an equal or bigger margin, as they have the head-to-head over China.

China lost the head-to-head against Denmark so they have to do better against England than Denmark do against Haiti. The exception is beating England by 2 goals or more which guarantees progression ahead of England.

The above 3 teams could get locked in a tie on all of points, goal difference, goals scored and head-to-head if there are 1 goal wins for China and Denmark. In that scenario, China are likely going out solely on the basis of cards, since Zhang Rui got sent off against Haiti.

Haiti need to beat Denmark and hope that England beat China by a combined margin of at least 3 goals. Anything else and they are out, with the exception of another 3-way deadlock between them, Denmark and china for 2nd place if both Haiti and England win by 1 goal. If that happens Denmark are more likely to go through as they have the best discipline record in the group so far.

Group E

USA are through with a draw or better. If they lose to Portgual, they need Vietnam to beat the Netherlands, as Netherlands will knock the USA out with a point. USA would need to lose by two goals more than the Netherlands to go out if both top teams lose.

Netherlands are in the same boat, except the 2-goal margin is against them compared tot he USA. Through if they win or draw against Vietnam, but if they lose, they will still go through if the USA beat Portugal or get hammered by them.

Portugal are guaranteed progression if they beat the USA. In a draw, Portgual go out unless the Netherlands lose. In a loss they are definately out. Vietnam are already eliminated.

Group F

France make the second round if they avoid defeat to (eliminated) Panama. If they lose, they'll require Jamaica to beat Brazil or for Jamaica to lose by a bigger margin than happens in France's game.

Jamaica are through with a win or a draw to keep them ahead of Brazil. If they lose they are probably out but could still make it ahead of France if les bleus lose to Panama by more goals. In the unlikely event of both sides losing by the same score, since they drew on head-to-head, Jamaica almost certainly go out on discipline.

Brazil reach the next round for sure with a win. A draw requires them to rely on France losing (by any margin), while a loss definately knocks them out. Panama are out.

At Portugal vs USA, not been the most free-flowing game. Portugal have looked a bit better imo, though the US have had the clearer chances. Needs a goal

USA really doing bare minimum to get out of the group. A Portugal goal and all hell breaks loose but you'd expect things to pretty much stay as they are.

This USA team looks decidedly average. They're only scraping through at the mo and I wouldn't back them to beat Sweden in the last 16.

Another good start from England which has thankfully silenced the very noisy Chinese fans (sounded like birds squawking in pain). Would be nice if they could put this one to bed by h/t.

Even with that fourth goal disallowed, that was a spectacular half by England.

Absolutely no idea why that 4th goal was disallowed. Yeah, Bronze is offside when the ball comes in, but she's onside after it's touched 2 players. Daft decision. Anyway, despite missing their 3 best players, England looking very strong.

With regards to the USA, it's becoming apparent that the best place for club football is Europe and not the US College System. Europe has caught up and frankly, looks to have gone past.
