What every team needs to qualify (groups G & H).

Group G

Sweden are already through. They top the group with a point or in any situation where they don't get thrashed.

Italy are through if they beat South Africa and out if they lose. In a draw, they have to hope Argentina don't beat Sweden as an Argentina win by any margin would pip them on goal difference.

South Africa need to beat Italy and then hope Argentina don't beat Sweden by a bigger margin. If both SA and Italy win and the margins are the same, SA have a 1-goal advantage on goals scored.

Argentina have the same results required - win their game and hope South Africa either don't win or win by a smaller margin.

Group H

Colombia advance if they don't lose to Morocco. Even if they do lose, they stay ahead of Morocco on goal difference if the margin is fewer than 4 goals. If even they somehow get beaten by 4+ goals, they could still qualify if Germany fail to beat South Korea.

Germany are guaranteed qualification with a win over South Korea. (Where have we seen that before?). In any sort of win, their goal difference is good enough that one of Colombia or Morocco will be behind them. In a draw, Germany still get through so long as Morocco don't win. In a loss, they have to hope Morocco also lose, unless they contrive to lose by 5 goals which lifts SK over them and guarantees an exit.

Morocco need to get more points against Colombia than Germany do against SK since the Germans wraxed their goal difference in their opening game. The only way to guarantee qualification is to beat Colombia by 4+ goals and knock them out instead. If they lose they are certainly out because one of Germany and SK has to get a better goal difference than them.

South Korea need to beat Germany by at least 4 goals (more likely by 5, due to goals scored), nothing else will do. Even then, they'll still need Morocco to lose to Colombia as well.

Absolutely no idea why that 4th goal was disallowed. Yeah, Bronze is offside when the ball comes in, but she's onside after it's touched 2 players. Daft decision. Anyway, despite missing their 3 best players, England looking very strong.

With regards to the USA, it's becoming apparent that the best place for club football is Europe and not the US College System. Europe has caught up and frankly, looks to have gone past.
Just watched the highlights and I'm nonplussed by that offside. That interpretation surely means no attacking player can ever stand behind the last defender at any point. Anyhow, immaterial in the end.

Yeah totally immaterial. Starting to realise just how strong the WSL is now that England can bring on various players and seemingly be unaffected. Really impressed by the Man Utd skipper Zemen effectively stepping into the Walsh role. The new system seemed to make them stronger allowing the wing backs to create havoc.

Thought we'd have no chance when we lost key players, but that's clearly not the case. Wiegmann really is such a decent manager, interesting to see the US fans complaining that theirs is most definitely not.

This tournament has seen a lot more upset than you'd normally get in the women's game where the differences between pro and semi-pro teams can be huge.

There's been a few coppings too but SA over Italy, NZ over Norway and Colombia over Germany would all have been pretty outlandish calls at the start of play. Plus things like Jamaica holding France and Portugal nearly turning over the USA.

Brazil are going to need to be a lot better in the second half if they're going to avoid an early exit.

France winning the group and likely to get to play Germany in the last 16. With US v Sweden and probably France v Germany, two huge and unexpected ties at this stage.

If Germany don't win their group then things have fallen quite kindly for England. Nigeria followed by one of Jamaica and Colombia in the next two rounds.

Result is England leading the field with the bookies at the time of writing.

There's been some outrageous skill this tournament. Lauren James' (what should have been) hattrack yesterday was pure class. And Panama's free kick is just flat out one of the best free kicks I've ever seen. Not sure you could place it any better.

Yeah, I don't know all that much about football, but I've been amazed at some of the quality.

And it's nice that I haven't come across as many men moaning about "the standard" as you often get with things like cricket - might be a consequence of these athletes having been fully professional for longer?

Yeah, it's seriously high quality now. 25 years ago you'd see someone hit the ball high towards the goal and some short little keeper wouldn't be able to reach it. But things have changed, the big European Clubs buying into Women's Football I think is key to it. No doubt the WSL is probably the all round strongest league now, with up to 6 highly competitive teams. I don't think the Germans can match that. The French and Spanish seem to just have one decent side each.

Lauren James is reminding me of Gazza at 1990. The goals she is scoring require serious talent, and the fact she can do it with both feet is astonishing.

And rightly so really, they're looking the best team. The one I don't understand is why Netherlands are 12-1 and Spain 5-1. I know which team I fancy to win their potential QF.
