Lacquer come off? Been a consistent pattern in this game for both sides that the brand new rock has been a good time to bat.
I remember seeing something from Brendan Julian before the series, arguing that Starc shouldn't take the new ball as it doesn't swing as much as it does from overs 5-20 and he isn't the kind of stump to stump bowler that uses it the most effectively. Most of the time I think he's a dumbass but I reckon he might've been onto something there. Australia's been trying too hard to get swing early and it's hurt them.

Yeah Starc opening when it isn't going to swung is such bad plans. That first over this AM set such a bad tone

Yeah very reminiscent of 2015 in that respect. Seems the lessons of 2019 didn't stick.

Reckon that might be one of his least streaky innings ever? Pretty normal amount of play and misses etc
Overs 5-15 was definitely a bit streaky. Not super streaky but there were a few mistimed shots/plays and misses. Has recovered a lot better since then though, and unlike Manchester I'm not sure we've bowled terribly poorly to him either.

Played again Crawley. Really hope this series will give him the confidence to go on and do it more consistently.

Yeah but it's opening the batting in England, that's the case for every player ever.

It is interesting how in terms of the bowling 2019 was a bit like 2013 in that I think Australia bowled well but had one batsman hurt them and the batting generally not doing enough to pick up the slack. We've batted better here than 2015 which has meant that the series hasn't ended in a loss but.....

Fair ****s to that flog trumpeter playing Harry Potter theme tune.

The value for runs square here is ridiculous
