Cummins was P.O.S in 2020-21 home series vs India. Not his fault his team lost, he alone fought hard.
Cummins was indeed excellent in that series (don't blame him for the loss at all), but Ashwin/Jadeja win about 90% of their matches (not series, matches - they win EVERY series) at home. Can you imagine if they dropped a series how some posters would respond to that?
Cummins dropped 2 series at home.

Speaking of, just wanted to put this in stats terms.

Win % and W/L ratio in home matches involving:
Joel Garner or Malcolm Marshall: 60% / 8.33
Glenn McGrath or Shane Warne: 73% / 7.375
Jimmy Anderson or Stuart Broad: 57% / 2.31
Pat Cummins or Josh Hazlewood: 65% / 4.66
Ravichandran Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja: 74.5% / 8.2

Why is Botham controversial? His first half, yes with WSC players missing, was still an unbelievable peak and makes his overall output more impressive. But he would just make it as an ATG while being below IK, Sobers, Kallis, Miller and Hadlee...
His unbelievable peak overshadows half his career which was bang average at best and yet he finds place in your ATG books?

Thank you for making your bias judgment pretty evident.

The unbelievable peak where he failed against the best side of his era where Kapil, Hadlee and Imran all of them gave their best.

That's less of an unbelievable peak and more of minnow bashing.

Also Davidson and Pollock are better allrounders than Botham.

Cummins is an easy ATG as a bowler alone imo.

An interesting comparison among off-spinners is Ashwin vs Laker. Laker is considered an ATG and probably the name that comes up most often after Murali/Warne/O'Reilly, and there can be some similar crticisms that can be made of Laker's record that are usually made for Ashwin. He too benefitted from some extremely helpful dustbowls at home and his away record is ok, but nothing spectacular especially when you consider he didn't bowl in anywhere near the variety of conditions modern bowlers do.
Does this apply to Rabada as well?

Cummins isn’t an easy ATG yet for me. He’s done awesome, but doing so in a bowler friendly era and for just 6-7 years is not quite good enough.

The quality is obvious though. It’s purely a longevity thing for me, even though I don’t think of it as a big deal usually, especially when we get into careers that are 10+ years.

I only have him as an ATG already because he's done brilliantly on some flat home decks too ( though recent Australia pitches have gotten much more helpful).

Maybe? I'm a bit more undecided on him than Cummins though because I don't think he's been as good as his figures suggest in the last 2-3 years.
I don't think anyone doubts that Rabada's figures flatter him in relation to Cummins. He does have substantially better figures though- think Cummins is ahead by just a touch now. I wouldn't call either of them ATGs yet, but I might actually say Rabada is closer even though not as good- played longer and got a bunch more wickets.

True, but I attribute some (just a lil) of that to how utterly crap teams were away from home for a while even on benign decks. Stuff like Jayant Yadav taking a 5-fer and scoring a 100 was happening everywhere.

Plus he only gets cute 3-fers… 🤡
