Before Sachin reached a hundred, the keeper missed a straight forward stumping. Nice try though....I think Tendulkar gets marked down unfairly for India's defeat against Pakistan. But he was dismissed that innings, which means it wasn't as he was stranded at one end. It was a great great innings though most would agree that Lara's 153* was a step higher.
On the other hand, there could be valid counter points that Sachin had a terrible back injury through that innings and Lara was fortunate to be dropped by Healy close to achieving the target.
Sachin was great vs spin and good vs pace not great imo. Sobers was also great vs all types of bowling and during a time with minimal protection and a match stick for a bat. Imagine if Sobers played in the 2000s with the tree trunks they use for bats now....I haven’t seen any batsman who was as good as Tendulkar against both pace and spin equally in my lifetime..
He was a quintessential “all-condition” player..
He would average 60+ but that has more to do with flat pitches of 2000s than big bats.Sachin was great vs spin and good vs pace not great imo. Sobers was also great vs all types of bowling and during a time with minimal protection and a match stick for a bat. Imagine if Sobers played in the 2000s with the tree trunks they use for bats now....
Batting had gotten tougher now with the emergence of the likes of Bumrah, NZ, Cummins and co, etc. I'd say from the early 2000s to the 2010s or so yeah, pitches were flat.He would average 60+ but that has more to do with flat pitches of 2000s than big bats.
While there has been better protection and bats available to bowlers there has also been significant increase in fielding standards and pace of fast bowlers. But there has been far more analysis on the strength and weakness of every batter. So it's not like batting has only gotten easier.
Yeah. I was talking more about 2000-2018 era.Batting had gotten tougher now with the emergence of the likes of Bumrah, NZ, Cummins and co, etc. I'd say from the early 2000s to the 2010s or so yeah, pitches were flat.
That's fair.Yeah. I was talking more about 2000-2018 era.
This also means Mathew Sinclair was better than Sobers.Sachin batted 4
Sobers didn’t
Therefore Sachin takes this comfortably
It also means Manoj Prabhakar > all. This also means Mathew Sinclair was better than Sobers.
I can support this.
Pretty large difference in the level of bowlers they faced (particularly spinners). Sobers did well against the spin quartet and some good English spinners but hardly comparable to Tendulkar dominating Murali and Warne.Sachin was great vs spin and good vs pace not great imo. Sobers was also great vs all types of bowling and during a time with minimal protection and a match stick for a bat. Imagine if Sobers played in the 2000s with the tree trunks they use for bats now....
Cry more lolThe hilarious thing is, Sobers wins this poll in a head to head against Tendulkar. However, if you include multiple WI greats of old in a poll, including Lara, Viv, Sobers, Weekes, then they split and Tendulkar gets a resounding victory, with very few, if any voters breaking off from his camp.
Similar thing happens if you run great WI batsmen against Hobbs.
A one eyed bunch of ****s, ye all are.
