That's not that bad. I'll admit I was looking at his last 5 years. Miandad had a very long career and his average declined at a rate you'd expect for most great batsmen. He didn't have a lopsided career like Kohli at all.miandad averaged 34 in his last 4 years, at least get that right. Thats a big decline, which made his average go from 57 to 52. not sure what your grumpy old ass is throwing fits for.
Australia was the best team in the world before Richards's peak and before Holding established himself. They wiped the floor with England and West Indies around that time. 3 Saleem Malik tier batsmen + an ATG is an exceptional batting line up. It's better than any in the world right now. A great batsman in a weak batting lineup is someone like Hanif in the late 50s or Lara/Tendulkar in the late 90s. Even West Indies only had Richards + 3 guys who averaged low to mid 40s at their best (Greenidge, Haynes, Lloyd/Richardson). Chapell's side won the Ashes home and away before the WSC split and handed WI what would be their last series loss in about 20 years.chappells team was not the best team in the world, West Indies and England were much much ahead, they were par with pak who had imran and miandad etc in the 70s or slightly below them. Those 3 batsmen you named, didnt do anything in odis which chappell carried and even in tests were 42ish avg bats. Respectable but thats really not the greatest support out there. Dont be a biased nostalgia uncle because those stats are comparable to someone like Saleem Malik if that is what you reckon is a consistent support out there.
A strike rate of 55 is exceptionally high. De Villiers was a fluent stroke maker, not someone to grind out runs painstakingly like Boycott. Not was he someone who had a reputation for playing big knocks. Tendulkar was the same way. A fluent stroke maker who didn't go big a whole lot. Root has a below average conversion rate for an ATG batsman and for half his career was notorious for throwing away starts. None of these guys fit alongside Boycott as players of attritional and lengthy innings. All this De Villiers t20 stints has probably made you forget that he doesnt actually just start throwing his bat around 360 in tests. He played at a SR of 55 while the average kept increasing by the year. He had a knack
You just don't know a whole lot about cricket.
