English Domestic Season 2023

Worcester sign Rob Jones (may join sooner rather than later):

Lancs statement includes: “We have taken the decision that Rob won’t feature in our First Team plans for the rest of this season - as we focus on players who will be at the Club next season and beyond. Discussions are ongoing between Lancashire and Worcestershire as to what the remainder of Rob’s season entails."

Vilas also dropped for the Warwickshire match, after his pair against Essex. That could be terminal if you take that quote on face value.

Interestingly Rob Jones will have scored a ton in his third FC match (carrying his bat as makeshift opener) and his last FC match for Lancs. But not a lot in the 40 odd games in between.

After that sort of in principle decision Lancs are down to 13-14 players for the Metro Bank one day cup. ⌗NoNeedToAnnounceASquad

Given Vilas’ age and status I suspect that he would not be sent out on loan. If his contract is not renewed he is more likely to leave county cricket.

Vilas is an overseas player, he won't go out on loan, but "as we focus on players who will be at the Club next season and beyond" should mean that he doesn't play again, even though he is the only overseas on their books after Mitchell leaves next week. But probably doesn't.

:-O
Just when I thought Lancs had improved the slip cordon when they removed Wells and added Jones.

Losing the captaincy?
I doubt it, as he stepped down, or that is what we were told. But there is clearly something major wrong at Lancashire at the moment:

Jones turns down a 2 year contract preferring to go to Worcestershire. Despite being one of the "team" players in the dressing room.
Club state Jones will not play again this season (see below).
Parkinson pushed out the door.
Lamb also leaving. Club choice, I suspect.
Named a squad of 14 for this game, claim that two bowlers picked up niggles in the warm up.
But don't select from the remaining 12 instead draft in Lamb for first 1st championship match this season - why was he even at the ground?
Why draft in a 5th seamer when there is already Bailey, Williams, Balderson, Mitchell. Why not play Croft or Hartley who were in the squad and presumably at the ground?
Clearly the decision is that they need a 5th seamer, who is leaving the club the day after issuing this statement:
“We have taken the decision that Rob won’t feature in our First Team plans for the rest of this season - as we focus on players who will be at the Club next season and beyond".
Or are the management just reinforcing a point they wanted to make to Jones?

That ball to get Came was a jaffa.

Meanwhile Hampshire's search for an opening partnership that can last beyond the first over goes on. Currently 0 for 2 after 4.
