Handy partnership this, but its not exactly risk free.

Break it and then you have 3 weak batsmen to come, yeah those can slog but bowl correctly to them and they more often than not fail .

Makes you wonder how the selection panel operates. “Tried and trusted, bit of a blip in this match but will come back strongly”. “Deserves more chances”. “Foakes is a decent keeper but can he score enough runs?” The emphasis is on run scoring, which is fair enough, but look at the runs saved and wickets taken by specialist keepers.

I’m convinced foakes has to play but the team philosophy is such, that they can’t bring him in

Yeah unlike a lot of the England tail Woakes is pretty dire against bounce but pitched up and he's rather good. 9-11 just smash it so you need more options. Especially against Wood.
