Yeah I don’t get the comparisons with the CDG ‘incident’, he’s just taken a couple of steps down the pitch as batters often do when there’s a vague chance of a run, and then not bothered to get back. I guess you could say the appeal momentarily distracted him but that seems like a reach.

Also in McCullum’s defence (yuck) I’m not sure what he was really supposed to do in the Murali/Mpofu situations either. They were both egregious examples of stupidity by the batters with the ball coming in to McCullum and the batters already long gone. The Mpofu one in particular he had basically completed a second run by the time McCullum got the ball. If anything, it was just unpalatable that he was so utterly gleeful about the run outs

Yeah fans abusing players from the crowd is a total meh to me but I think the special nature of the Long Room with the players having to walk through means they should be held to a higher standard. If you want to call opposition players cheating ****s then sit in the stands.
1000% this. Awful.

but thankfully baz has a lot of incidents of ****y behaviour so its all good :innocent:
Haha, this is true. Although the Mpofu one I hadn't seen before, that is pretty dozy on his behalf to run down while Vettori is collecting the ball still.

The Collingwood 09 one is the bad one

Yeah, it says something about the situation that the Zimbabwean dressing room’s reaction was not righteous indignation but to burst out laughing.

You’re asking why I would dare reply to your posts (without even bothering to disagree with you no less!) but sure, I’m taking personal offence
It's the nature of your response. Either you agree with me in which case there was no need for your aggressive, all-caps caricature response, you don't in which case my rejoinder was claiming you were wrong, or you've misunderstood.

I said something, you made a response which could reasonably be construed as disagreement. So for you to claim that your post is fully consistent with mine means you either misunderstand, or actually agree with me which means there was no reason to reply how you did.

At least Murali touched down, Mpofu you got spot on. And if TH is defending Baz, it's worth paying attention

i think the murali one is the best comparison, because it's the batsman jaunting off on a frolic without awareness of where the ball is

tbh to me what Carey did is worse than what McCullum did, but we're splitting hairs a bit. Murali/Mpofu departed further from basic expectations of a batter to stay in his crease whereas what Bairstow did was fairly normal.

Worth noting that NZ ended up withdrawing their appeal after Collingwood was given out in this case.

I forgot that Collingwood one, was that basically the same as Carey/Bairstow? (yeah I could just look it up but why turn down the chance to make another post)

Pretty much an exact analogue, yeah. Banged in outside off, left alone, Collingwood walked down the pitch because it was the last ball of the over, and McCullum threw down the stumps. Umpires hadn't called over, 3rd umpire gave it out.

The only difference was McCullum's was more reactive whereas Carey's was clearly premeditated.

And yet I was happy for the appeal to be withdrawn when my team did it to England, but happy for it to stand when Australia did it to England. Not sure what to make of that (aside from I guess I just hate England a lot more now and/or have become a worse person).
