The turn out has been fantastic every time I've watched cricket in Zimbabwe since the last World Cup Qualifier. Even the one day matches against Pak A last month were very well attended. The series they won against Bangladesh last year had massive crowds too.Excuse my ignorance (in every post tbf) but is cricket in Zimbabwe usually this well supported? This fervent support isn’t how I remember most of the cricket that I recall watching from Zimbabwe for the last 20-odd years. Is it just this tournament? Part of a gradual resurgence in Zim cricket? Is my premise false?
And they were loud and rowdy as ****, singing like football fans. It was fantastic. The series they won against Bangladesh last year had massive crowds too.
No way 498 by eng? It's incredible to think that Zim got 400 despite their openers eating up 142 deliveries for only 100 runs ..The rest got 308 in in 158 balls ..If Ervine was playing they may have broke the world record.
Cricket is the second most popular sport in Zimbabwe and most Zimbabweans know the team and its players. The diaspora support is just as fervent but smaller scale. Not much cricket in Zim has been televised over the last two decades but there were similar crowds in the last qualifying tournament too.Excuse my ignorance (in every post tbf) but is cricket in Zimbabwe usually this well supported? I love them all so much. Being in the diaspora crowd for the games I’ve seen Zim play in NZ and Aus have honestly been among the best days of my life.
As I’ve said in other threads over the years, Zim give something to cricket no other country does. It is the only country in Africa where you see crowds like this.
