*Official* Women's Ashes 2023

First Test starts tomorrow and England have named their team. The surprise is pace bowler Lauren Filer making her debut.

Beaumont, Lamb, Knight, NSB, Dunkley, Wyatt, Jones, Ecclestone, Cross, Filer, Bell

Forget about the men's Ashes 😀 this is the real event of the cricketing summer.

Obviously we'll give the Aussies a proper hammering as we're a young team on the up whilst they're struggling without Meg Lanning.

Come on ladies, let's show these Aussies how to play the game and bring the multi format urn back to where it belongs.

Tough in Izzy Wong being left out. Reports say that Filer is fast, although I've not seen her bowl.

I'm very much looking forward to the series.

Healy wins the toss and Australia bat (turns out Knight would've bowled anyway which seems a bit odd).

I'm interested to see the new wonder kid Litchfield bat.

Promoting Litchfield up to open is a good move - opening, keeping and captaining would be too much of a workload for Healy.

Seems like a nervy start from Cross, but a lovely shot by Litchfield for her first boundary in tests.

Completely missed this thread.

I feel like the Aussies are missing another specialist bat without Lanning in there. But what do I know.

Litchfield is rated by some as next great player

Technically much better than Mooney already

I can confidently put money on Beaumont getting out lbw or bowled in both innings. For some reason she keeps getting out that way and doesn't seem to know what to do with the ball that moves in and gets in line with the stumps.

Nice work. Obviously no DRS in this series, not sure it would've saved her, and probably didn't deserve to.

Edit: DRS has it missing, and it is available too. Why did she not review?

Why no DRS available? That's weird.

Though DRS actually got it wrong there imo – the swing wasn't extrapolated; it should've been umpire's call.

Three reviews available. I think she just thought she was out, batters often do when not playing a shot.

Mooney's looking a lot more comfortable now. Those drops could be costly.

Wow, but this might be a heck of a start to Filer's career!

Edit: Ooh, not quite.

Why on earth has Filer not bowled earlier? Perry struggling against the extra pace, but a rank poor lbw decision. Seemed obvious she hit it from the first viewing.
