Smith's been playing since 2010 so Stuart is obviously a slow learner.
Tbf Broad had broken down by the time Smith was picked in the 10-11 Ashes so it wasn't until 2013 they went against eachother in Tests, but your general point definitely stands

He's not exactly been the only one to have not quite worked out Smith. Just wondering who out there does have a decent record against him?

Edit: I know they've played against each other a lot, but turns out that Broad has actually got Smith out more times than anyone else in Tests.

Haha Stokes wanted 8 pace bowlers for the Ashes, now they're down to Josh Tounge in the XI lol
He could still have something close to it as most of England's injuries have occurred early season. Atm he's missing Archer for the season but should get Stone back half way through. His biggest concern right now would be himself.

Totally agree with this. It looks like for the First Test he'll have a choice of Anderson, Broad, Robinson, Wood, Woakes, Potts which is plenty. But the problem is, unless his own knee sorts itself out (which frankly doesn't look likely), then he's going into each Test with just 3 seamers.

What is Anderson's average? Given he missed the 2019 plundering (and maybe he was a reason for it), I'm guessing it could be a bit better.
Took that from Charles Davis piece about most runs batsman v bowler, showed only 15. Don't know the answer to your question.

Cricmetric seems to be a good site for this. The 8 wickets have come at 50. Interestingly, Robinson has got him out twice in 76 balls at an average of just 9. Seems like Smith struggles to score off him.

You'd like to think the England Statisticians would be all over this kind of thing, but in the past I've often wondered.

Does anyone know what has happened to Mahmood? Last played 11 May.
Why not picked for the T20 warm up or the Lancs game T20 and no mention of him.
He is being managed back to fitness. He missed two championship matches, played one, missed one and played another.
Didn't play the first T20 match as he was ill. Played today.

As expected Anderson and Robinson will sit out the Ireland test.

Stokes will play but only as a batter.

Can't see Wood in the XI; he's carry a knock (as per) and his other half is due anytime.
Maybe Josh Tongue then? Cant see them going with Leach as one of four bowlers, maybe if Woakes was batting at seven but that's a very light tail if so.

Why? they're going to need someone to bowl some overs, and probably better Leach than a complete novice. Not sure we want an injury to a pace bowler and then flogging Broad to death, or Joe Root doing his back by bowling 30 overs. woakes, Potts, Broad is probably a better tail then some we've had recently, mainly because of Woakes.

It maybe interesting that Cove hasn't been picked in Somerset''s T20 tonight, or just a coincidence. The Tongue call-up is increasingly looking so bizarre, when you think Fisher, S Curran and others are fit. Who knows maybe he'll play and get a bagfull?‍♂

He’s confirmed to play

Well that side looks appalling, hideous tail, no variety in an inexperienced (barring Broad)seam bowling attack, but I guess we'll just look to score 500 in a day, and they'll muddle through. I reckon Brook may get a few overs.

Tongue obviously being picked for pace over demonstrated ability.

Be interesting to see if he does a Stone and bowls only 84 MPH.
