Yeah but we all know its never the response to one post when there have been multiple on the topic by the same poster. Isn't that the whole point of the mods issuing "cease and desist" warnings?

Yes but there are two problems here: (a) continuing the argument after I've asked people to stop and (b) the actual content of the posts. The reason I singled out that post by Arachnodouche in particular is the content of the post. It would obviously be much much better if people didn't continue the argument beyond its use by date, not least because it can lead to massive thread blow ups out of nowhere, but actual post content is always going to matter more, and that one post set off massive alarm bells for me.

Yeah, and the way I see it, what you guys usually do is warn in the thread about (a) and hand out appropriate punishments for (b) at the backend.
