2nd XI runs/grade runs are cited for all of the inclusions

“Ryan Hackney has been in the Blues team previously and has averaged over 65 in Second Xl this season.

“Blake MacDonald was in the squad with us for the last match, although he didn’t play. He has had a phenomenal summer, scoring consecutive Second Xl centuries for ACT / NSW Country as well as 177 not out against the touring West Indies side. This week in the match between NSW Metro and NSW/ACT Country he scored in the 90’s twice.

“He was given feedback earlier in the season and asked to score more runs and he has more than done that. Those two guys completely demanded selection.

“Similarly, Jason Sangha was left out of our last match and went away and scored plenty of runs in this week’s Second Xl match.

“Ryan Hadley is another who has put the form on the board with an extremely dominant Premier Cricket season.”

He's been dire for 3 seasons now though. 2020/21 was a one ton/no 50's/average of 21 as well. when does the credit run-out?
I think that shows part of NSW's problem, both him and Henriques really haven't been up to scratch lately yet it's hard to drop them because the other options really aren't any better. Even Hughes has been pretty inconsistent.

Jack edwards still in the squad. Lol no point making swingeing cuts elsewhere if he’s persisted with.

Would've been a good opportunity to replace him with Harry Manenti to encourage him to stick around instead of joining his brother in Adelaide. **** will probably average 40 with the bat and 28 with the ball next season.

So, any reason other than stupidity that Morris couldn't have flown home and be playing in the Shield rather than giving Chucker Gannon or *checks notes* Liam Haskett (who???) a game?

He now hasn't played a first class game since the start of December which is ridiculous for a bowler at his stage of development. If he gets picked in the Ashes squad he won't have played anything before then. Should at least have been on the A tour (him and Johnson sharing the new ball would be fun). You don't learn much just bowling in the nets so it's a serious loss of time to gain experience.

I think Australia needed him as a concussion sub.

Why he's ahead of Boland in this regard, I don't know given Boland played in the first Test.

Maybe Australia felt that in the case of a concussion sub morris's extra pace would help more on a flat deck like this? I don't like that theory myself, since boland has built a career on bowling away on flat mcg decks, but you never know.

Also, I know this would have been a hard call to make going into the game but with hindsight maybe boland would have been a better pick then kuhnemann on this deck? Wouldn't have happened , since murphy and lyon are very similiar and kuhnemann took 5fer in the last game, but a bit of food for thought.

It was my understanding that Morris was going to be made available for the Shield final.
I stand corrected. The latest is that Morris remains with the squad but Boland has been released to play for Victoria.
The unavailability of Morris plus the injury to Richardson is a blow to WA's Shield chances ... but we have the depth.

Good to see Parramatta opening batsman Ryan Hackney making a start in the Shield game. Fortunately the game finishes Friday so he should be right for week one of the finals.

Has played well from what I have seen today. Seems to have good patience, maybe a touch uncomfortable against the short stuff at times but has stuck it out well

Can see both sides of the argument behind dropping KPat myself, it's fair in the sense that after a strong start his season has really tailed off badly in the second half, yet you can also argue he is far from the only one to not deliver for NSW in the last few games

Not sure what I am more annoyed about, letting Edwards and Gilkes make runs, or those runs meaning those two (especially Edwards) are almost certainly going to be locks to start next season

Also bowling first undoubtedly the wrong call. Pitch may have looked a little green, but it played more and more like a typical KRO highway as the day went on. Some of the South Australian fielding really didn't help either

Assuming Moz retires I think Edwards is probably a lock as the weird no-rounder at 7 next season anyway imo. If no interstate keeper is signed then Gilkes hanging around is fine, wasting those games on Holt this season was silly so if this ensures that doesn't happen again so be it
