Green doesn't look comfortable vs the short ball. He's had a few hit him in the gloves/pop up already today. Even that pull shot looked extremely forced.
He doesn't have a real back foot game. Even that back foot cut/drive which is probably his signature shot is one he plays off a neutral position.

Probably the product of being so tall tbh

Would like to see Khawaja take Shami here though. Green has a record of being a bit of a happy hooker and holing out

How would he go about fixing that realistically? I'm suprised he's not had issues vs the short ball at shield level playing for WA honestly, I never noticed him struggling vs it in his initial years as a specialist bat at that level.

235 so far on this pitch on day 1 is not a great effort. good for australia but probably not enough to win a test if it stays a road and kohli and the others decide to feast

Don't rule out another collapse by the Indian batting order!

Eh it's fine. Far more important to let the Indian bowlers cook in the heat than get 300+ in the day, especially with it being so slow.

green showing that it is not that hard to score quickly on this track

aus have not made the best use of this day 1 pitch
This scoring rate is down to the new ball though. It won't be like this at lunch tomorrow.

And besides, they wouldn't be getting these loose balls if not for the hard work done by Smith and Khawaja in the middle session. Smith was a bit too conservative but we're talking 20 runs at most
