There can only be 1 answer, the 2019 WC final.

I'm not saying that because we won. The WC final is the single most important game every 4 years and it went to the last ball of the super over.

You can't top that.

WC SF is the second most important game sure, but the 99 WC had so many ATGS(unlike 2019), and was even more exhilarating, swinging here and there, and it was SA's(finding a way to lose important matches, and collapsing under pressure, look at the final runout)well as Australia's(finding a way when it is important most of all and keeping calm under pressure, look at the final runout here also from an Aussie perspective) story crystallised in a match. You see al the shades of performance possible. It is alsmot too perfect to be true: life represented in a cricket match. It is also a very very sad match then.

Whatever it takes!!!
Glad OP included the India Pakistan 04 Karachi odi. Voted for it because it's my favourite non world cup game and it'd be boring just voting for the usual suspects . Sehwag's blitz at the top, Dravid's silky innings, Akhtar getting him on 99 with a sassy slower ball, Inzi's glorious ton, Kaif taking maybe the one of greatest outfield catches ever, and then that hilarious last ball where Miandad was on the balcony instructing Moin how to emulate his famous last ball six

Everything about it was great, and it's one of the last non WC ODIs that felt like a truly epic occasion because it was the first game of India's historic tour of Pakistan (first one to actually have tests and odis since 1989). The entire tour was very batting friendly but also extremely entertaining and memorable.
That catch was Badani's and I will die on that hill. Kaif just wanted to steal some thunder. Badani would have pouched it easily.

The 2019 game had the greatest finish ever but as an overall quality game, 99 Aus SA was much more quality.

I can acknowledge that the 1999 SF had more ATG players, given it was in an era where most of the gun test players also played ODIs and it was basically 1 v 2 of the era. That basically can’t be replicated now. However, I feel like it’s unfair to act like this is a massive contrast with the 2019 Final, because that England white ball side from 2015 onwards is an ATG side full of great white ball players - it just doesn’t resonate quite the same because the team wasn’t full of test greats. It’s still an exceptionally high quality team/game in the format. tbf the NZ team was not quite as strong but that adds another element, of the genuine underdog who were also desperately searching for an overdue first win.

Also totally biased but the 2015 semi should at least have some votes. Super evenly-poised run chase, two teams trying to make their first final, a delirious home crowd and an iconic finish. Also, that NZ team were on fire (much more so than 2019) and SA were full of big name players, so the quality was there

That game had some rank bowlers, rain and a dodgy political cloud over it. Great game, but can't justify it ahead of the 99 semi or 2019 final. Also prefer the 438 game. Might prefer others on the list as well, but there were plenty I didn't actually see.

Rank bowlers? NZ had a very strong attack by our standards (especially cos Southee was in a good ODI bowler phase at the time), so you’re basically writing off the standard of the game because SA went in with 4 specialist bowlers -something extremely common throughout ODI history?

Dodgy political cloud?

Rain sure, although I feel like it just added another layer of drama to the game

Anyway, I tend to agree it’s not the winner, but not sure I follow some of your criticisms

It wasn't just that the 99 game had more ATGs, but that several of them performed in the same game.
Donald and Pollock took four and five wickets respectively.
Bevan and Steve Waugh saved Australia.
Warne produced one of the greatest spells ever by an ODI spinner.
Kallis and Rhodes rescued SA, and then Klusener took them near the finishing line.
So in the same game, you saw worldclass pace, seam, spin, middle order scoring and late order hitting.

The 2019 game, I didn't feel NZ was an underdog but a near competitor. England had a great side too. There were some great batting heroics and the finish was the best ever, but not the all-round excellence of the 99 game where we saw ODI skills of the highest order.
