Good post but tbf this does say a whole lot about Australia and India's own dominance.
Obviously yes. But people have gone and looked at England winning 11 out of 12 test matches in all kinds of conditions and going "You need to win in the two places where basically no one wins to be considered the best right now". It's a completely absurd high bar.

Seriously is that how you understood it?

I am clearly saying they are in top 3 because they've done so well beating other sides but under this leadership they haven't faces the best sides yet.

It's the performances in those key series that will determine if they are the best side or among the top 3 sides globally. Like how hard is it to understand this point for an experienced poster like you?
Condescending morons the bunch of you. Subhakerz is a legend for putting up with you. Peace out.

So if Eng have won 11 of their 12 series why aren't they clear winners in this poll? Or not at the top of ICC rankings? Because there are other two sides equally or slightly better than them right now.

If they are to be a superior side to the other two challengers they have to perform well against them to be the outright best side. Right?

You're pretty much saying completely ignore every other series except the India and Aus series? That's ridiculous imo. You don't need to win some arbitrarily decided "ultimate challenge" final boss to be the best team in the world. If they beat Australia and India away they should probably be considered one of the greatest teams of all time, much less merely the best team right now. You're holding them to a crazy high standard.
That is weird from you. So, now that India beat Australia away, if they had beaten England away instead of drawing the series, will you consider India as the greatest team of all time?

So, why do you think England alone deserves that title so quickly? Just because they've beaten Pakistan and New Zealand? They lost to west indies and Australia prior to beating pak and NZ as well while India has won almost everything except SA away recently.

So now you can be no.1 side without beating other 2 competitors home or away.

SA were also no.1 side in 2001 based on same logic because they won in IND/SL previously and Aus lost in IND/SL in 01 and 99

If they had won in England and SA, yes I would have considered that team one of the best of all time.

The rankings always have lag and donot often reflect the current quality of teams. This has been explained before. The rankings have Australia at 1 and they aren't the best either.

I'm surprised that such an experience poster like you isn't able to understand. What's so hard about this, anil?

Because they aren't in contention for the WTC final either. Simple.

Eng aren’t getting ranked no.1 till they thrash Australia in Ashes . Ranking has lag that doesn’t mean you get ranked no.1 by beating no 5 and 6 sides away .

You need to beat top 2 sides to get huge points . Such simple things shouldn’t need explanation.

It's a self serving standard to neutralize England's run of success. I mean, whitewashing Pakistan and NZ away is an incredible achievement and we wouldn't hear the end of it if it was India.

Yeah I think we should all agree that England winning the upcoming Ashes puts them at no.1

England aren’t getting ranked no.1 till they smash Australia 3-0 /4-0 in Ashes . England beating PAK/NZ is useless from ranking pov .
Haha they don't need to smash Australia, a simple victory is enough. Unless they do an India and prepare seaming decks every test.

Do you even have idea how ICC ranking works ? I am talking about ICC ranked no.1 team not your fantasy no.1 team .

For eg . IND needs to win atleast 3-0 to get no.1 ranking from Aus .

India are the only team except WI of 80s to win 4 consecutive test series against AUS since 1930.
You made Imran your PM for drawing series against WI . Don’t worry we won’t make Rohit/Rahane our PM .

This is the kind of post that's always made before any England - Australia series in India, then the said team starts getting demolished and the tune changes to how the other one of them would have given a better fight. By the next series we forget all about it and the process repeats.
Please don't give the game away

according to the mental gymnast

India’s previous record against SA and NZ means that they won’t win there even if their current teams are worse

but India’s previous record against Australia doesn’t matter because it favours India and we can’t have it

England‘s previous record against WI doesn’t matter because it doesn’t favour England and isn’t a true reflection of Stokes’ England

Australia’s previous series against SA away doesn’t matter because it isn’t a true reflection of Cummins’ Australia

India’s dominant record at home isn’t to be considered in judging the team that we consider to be the best because it makes India look good. can’t have a simple head to head matter either. never mind that a simple home and away series between the three of them would mean India have the likeliest of having most wins and that isn’t talked about in a thread for the best team currently because it’s far easier to talk instead about how versatile the teams are in different conditions as a criteria even if it has no relevance to actual topic

and the best part. whitewashing Pakistan at home, a team that has 0 wins at home in 3 series is supposed to be some incredible achievement. ENGLAND whitewashing SL away in two consecutive series is a better achievement and yet its conveniently not ranked that highly because it was Root’s England and for Stokes England to be built up so highly we need Root’s England to be **** upon continuously
