If you want the WTC to have some sort of gravitas it should be played at the game's spiritual home.

If you move it around it takes some of the symbolic significance from it. It's not like a WC where the host country benefits from a whole tourney's worth of matches - the lead up to the WTC final is already played everywhere across the world.

No one is going to run back into the shed after qualifying for the final and say "You beauty boys, we're off to the big dance in..... Harare." FMD if you want it to represent the pinnacle of the game's longest form, play it at the ground with the most historical significance to the sport. It's one test every touring cycle. Suck it up and play it there.

Indian posters Gambhiring so hard they fill their diapers when they've lost two tests at home on the past decade.
This is somewhat interesting.

My problem with the venue, wherever it is, is regarding the nature of 1 pitch. 1 pitch invariably favours one of the two teams more than the other, and that is unfair. Taking this likely final, if the pitch favours spinners that is in India's favour. If it favours seam, that (traditionally) favours Australia. Unless there is the perfect piitch that is prepared to suit all forms of bowling equally, the nature of a single game to determine the winner is unfair.

Curiously, which ground would be the most balanced pitch around the world, for such events?
That ground in Rwanda.

So, every final at the Wankhede then? Easily the home of cricket now

What's the historical significance of Wankhede Stadium? It's been in existence less than a century and its historical significance pertains to Indian cricket history not the history of the game.
Some events are set in stone. The FA Cup at Wembley. The Masters at Augusta and the AFL Grand Final (apart from a Covid interruption) at the MCG and now the WTC at Lords.

It's a lot easier to argue things are set in stone when they've happened more than literally just once.

The WTC just shouldn't be a thing IMO. I think it will only serve to remove context from Tests rather than add to them - we'll get JAMTests. As is stood every series was respected in its own right.

If it's going to exist I like the novelty of having it a neutral venue, even though "home of #1 team" would probably be fairer.

This isn't a bad point tbh.

I only went to the trouble of posting that is because it's so rare to hear such a ting from Cribbeh.

The sun set on the British empire a long time ago. Watch RRR, my man.

The examples I gave included the US (Masters) and Australia, which long did away with the concept of 'Empire'. I'm sure there are other events (eg Le Mans) from countries other than UK where events are traditionally held at particular venues. Regardless of your feeble jibe, Lords remains the historic centre of cricket.
