*Official* Australia in India 2023

He's 36, clearly well past his best and had an abysmal Ashes Tour in 2019. Could that be it for his Test career?

Not an admirer of many of the things that Warner has done but he’s been a great player for Australia

My view is that he should have been tapped on the shoulder at the beginning of the Australian summer and the selectors should have picked someone else in an attempt to acclimatise to test cricket at home

Warner’s record in India and England is poor

His eyes have gone & that should be it

Only issue is that there’s nobody else

Pucovski’s injuries have left a gaping hole

I feel like there an attitude at least in Australian cricket that long-standing players must be allowed to go out on their own turn.

Only recently

Border, Jones, Waugh, Healy, etc were all pushed
I left that it was a recent thing unsaid. Though Jones ain't a good example.

There also seems to be more hyperbole in backing failing players too. I think it might be because the old 'we're backing him to come good' line was increasingly seen through and the increasingly hyperbolic media full stop, but it seems to be the thing now to back yourself into a corner and say that alternatives are impossible.

It’s all about money

Players don’t want to retire due to the coin they earn

Selectors don’t want to risk dropping a popular player due to the coin they earn

The chairman of selectors is not in India but I guarantee you that he will be at Lords after travelling first class & staying 5 star

The coach is in the change room and criticising tactics ?

In many of those cases (Healy especially) there were strong alternatives coming through. The problem with Warner is that no one is pushing him out. Khawaja is the same age, they really need to find two openers, not just one.

How about the transition side once Ashwin and Jadeja go?
Shouldn't be too bad. Obvious drop in quality to be expected but we have a couple of decent spinners in the shed. Be harder to replace their batting chops in India though; hopefully by then the top order would look different and bedded in.
No way, it’s going to be a disaster. This is probably the greatest spin duo of all time, at home. It will be a huge drop off. The chances of finding another tow witb similar enough consistency and skill NOT TO MENTION batting is basically low to none. I’m not saying there’s going to be no one who can’t win matches at home, but there will certainly be a drop off. Hopefully that’s 2-3 years away.

We literally beat Australia in Australia with a patchwork team, of course we have a chance against them in England.

Really need to stop crying before the actual game, and tbh beating them in conditions more suitable to them would be far far sweeter than doing it in UAE or wherever.
I say let’s have it at the gabba and send the B team.

The no.1 Team on WTC table should host the final . And the other finalist should decide the venue imo .
This is somewhat interesting.

My problem with the venue, wherever it is, is regarding the nature of 1 pitch. 1 pitch invariably favours one of the two teams more than the other, and that is unfair. Taking this likely final, if the pitch favours spinners that is in India's favour. If it favours seam, that (traditionally) favours Australia. Unless there is the perfect piitch that is prepared to suit all forms of bowling equally, the nature of a single game to determine the winner is unfair.

Curiously, which ground would be the most balanced pitch around the world, for such events?
