The sweep. Hilarious. They don’t realize that both Ashwin and Jadeja likely literally salivate when they think the opposition will just be sweeping all day.
They can play the sweep, the scoop, the block, the chop, the flip or the dingdong. Doesn't matter cas' after any fancy shot, the next delivery is a ball doing something funny with their name on it.

This is the worst possible attitude to have in India and means you will lose the game before the game even starts. Now if you’re the lower order or the tail, it’s fine to think that way, but if your top and middle order thinks that, it’s over.

It's not an attitude. It's just the reality. You can take a proactive approach but the spinners are simply too good to smack for too long.

They should pull in Hayden as consult for the remainder of the tour. Guy once swept his way to 500 runs in these same conditions.
Diff bowlers though.

2001 was essentially Harby vs Aussies. The 2nd highest wicket taker for India in that series was Sachin Tendulkar.

Just to add, Labu's dismissal by Jadeja was set up by Ashwin in the previous over, with Jadeja sending down the perfecr coupe de grace delivery. That's how ridiculous these 2 are now.

Can't hurt, though he'll have some task teaching these people. The reverse sweep was nowhere as prevalent in cricket back then for one, let alone Test match cricket. I understand players of recent vintage are quite expert at it but it will always remain a low-percentage shot primarily because of how unbalanced you are while playing it with any authority. And on these wickets, against these bowlers? Forget it.

There is a reason why the great Indian batsmen who used to toy around with spinners didn't use sweep that often. It was scoffed at as sort of what a lesser skilled batter would deploy. Just watch Rohits batting today, for whatever limited time he was around, he batted gloriously vs spin, coming down the track and playing the flicks and on drives with disdain. Also Indian batters used to show off with the paddle than the sweep which again calls for higher skills (but once you have gauged the bounce is quite a productive tool).

Nah, there is a much better approach to bat against Ashwin/Jadeja and spin on turning tracks on general. You use good wristwork to neutralise the spin, or come down the wicket to get to the pitch of the ball, to both defend( a la Pujara) and attack(a la Rohit). I’m not saying Aus can surely win by this, but it’s atleast a sensible approach.

This wasn’t a impossible track to bat on, it was made tougher than what it is by the atrocious approach of the Aussie batsmen to playing spin

Rohit is not being given due credit here. He has batted the best any top order batsmen from either side, and could well have finished this game within 20 overs, the way he was going.
