i think it's also important to note that in the shot that looks like they're simultaneously touching, that pads are porous right? they've got a bit of give. so when a ball's impacted into a pad, well, that's not the point of first contact, it's pushed it's way in to the plush of the pad a little bit by that point

that implies the review is a fresh look from neutral base rather than a process of seeking to overturn the umpire's decision though which it isn't

i'm happy to be corrected if i'm wrong but from my understanding the review process doesn't seek to evaluate the result of the ball afresh, but rather it takes the umpires original decision and looks for evidence to overturn it?
