ABD role was different from that of Kallis. Kallis usually came a No 3 or 4 and ABD at No 5 or 6. Kallis has to do a supporting role on the other hand ABD has to play generally a quick innings with tailenders to increase the lead before the Team gets All out. ABD is like Steve Waugh a good No 5 player. Kallis and Lara are the right comparison as both usually played at No4 with occasionally coming up at No3.
I don't think so. He is known to be a dasher in limited overs formats but his SR in tests was a sedate 54. Agree with the argument on batting positions.

it depends on the match situation, Kallis position is more stable than ABD's No5 and No6 sometimes you have to score fast and sometimes slow based on the match circumstance. If early wickets have fallen then he has to play very slow and if the top order batsmen made good amount of runs then de Villiers has to play faster.

So generally a Lower Order Batsmen has to be more flexible in changing the pace of his game that's what i mean.

By modern standards thats not that high. 130-140 was within his grasp.
Modern players have to play in all 3 formats of the game so it’s a bit too much for them. As you said 130-140 could have been better but still 114 is a decent figure as he also had a good ODI career and T20 Career.

I agree that if ABD played 20 to 30 Tests more and scored more than 10,000 Runs with 50+ Avg he would have been in the Top Tier of Players with the likes of Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting.

The undermining of Border and Waugh on CW is quite criminal.
Semi serious point on this. They did have the unique opportunity of every couple of years, and every 4 years at home, getting a guaranteed 5 or even 6 Tests to feast on the rubbish England bowlers of their time. Batsmen from no other country got this luxury.

Cricket is a Game Started as a Rivalry between Australia ?? and England ??????? but they also play with other Countries. The Problem with Pakistan is they have very good talent but with poor infrastructure. We only judge cricket players based on what they accomplished and don’t bring the outside factors as they are not relevant in the discussion. Border and Waugh both achieved a lot and you cannot underestimate them. Australia ?? produced very good players due to their Superior Sports facilities in the Country.

A Very Good Example : Field Hockey was dominated by India and Pakistan for many years untill 1980s. Once Grass was replaced by Astroturf Courts in Hockey. European and Australian Teams started winning Big Tournaments. Reason is Many India and Pakistan players were not rich enough to pay money and practice on Astroturf courts in their countries as they were only few courts available which can only be afforded by Rich, So the quality of players decreased. In Developed Countries like Australia, England, Germany many players can have easy access to these facilities and can become good sportsman.

That’s why I said to become Javed Miandad in Pakistan is tougher than becoming Allan Border in Australia. However, you cannot undermine Allan Border as the outside factors are not a criteria to judge a player’s accomplishments and abilities. Mohammad Asif might have struggled more than Glenn McGrath to become a fast bowler but we rate McGrath higher as he was player who has accomplished more.
