And other batsman from both the team are gonna go down to Average of 35-40 or even less.Nah Bradman will be not be averaging 99 against this level of bowlers. (Ambrose, Holding, Wasim, Hadlee..) He will come down to 60-70 or even less. So there's nothing unfair.
Sutcliffe and Hobbs are still better.
Hobbs is the same as Hayden in Australia. He did not face an attack like he will and will diminish just like hayden will. Both will average about 30. I'll give you Herb > our next guy, and his advantage (after halving due to an ATG attack) will be about 5 runs at best.Sutcliffe and Hobbs are still better.
But to say Gavaskar didn't do well in Australia is garbage.Sutcliffe and Hobbs are still better.
That's because the **** **** played most of his games in Australia when Lillee wasn't present. He played 3games against Lille...ergo Gavaskar is ****ed!Also, Gavaskar only got out to Lillee twice in his whole career in Test cricket:
And Hutton who scored against probably Australia’s best ever attack.Iverson,Lindwall,Miller,Johnston.Sutcliffe and Hobbs are still better.
Who said he didn't do well in Australia? I said he did well against arguably the shitest teams Australia has ever fielded. But to say Gavaskar didn't do well in Australia is garbage.
Hutton is a gun. But he only averages 50 in Australia. If this is stat based (why else pick pant or devilliers) then Hutton is a downgrade on Hobbs and Herb. Personally, I'd pick Hobbs and Hutton. And Hutton who scored against probably Australia’s best ever attack.Iverson,Lindwall,Miller,Johnston.
I didnt say that. He didnt score in the only series facing a quality Aussie attack. But to say Gavaskar didn't do well in Australia is garbage.
Have you checked Garner's record in Australia? Why him over Holding? This is who I'd pick for ROTW
Hobbs
Hutton
Viv
Tendulkar
Hammond
Sobers
Knott
Imran
Hadlee
Garner
Ambrose
I love Holding, but as a kid watching the Windies, it was Garner that seemed like the killer. Those continual balls into the chest area ****ed everyone up and made them fodder for everyone else. Holding is probably just as good. I wouldn't be upset either way.Have you checked Garner's record in Australia? Why him over Holding?
Batting is fine.
Hayden will do ok against Hadlee I imagine as medium pace didn't bother him.You have listed 4 guys. They will all be much better in Australia than overseas. They will all average the expected average of 30, which is all you are going to expect the World team to average. The openers advantage is only a few runs at best. Do the math.
Fair enough. Garner is too similar to Ambrose for me but a yard slower. Holding has the fear factor.I love Holding, but as a kid watching the Windies, it was Garner that seemed like the killer. edit: so no. I did no ckeck any stats on the bowling front. They are all picked on the vibe they gave when touring here.
Imran definitely shouldn't be making this xi. His only big hauls were in 1977 against an awful batting lineup. This is who I'd pick for ROTW
Hobbs
Hutton
Viv
Tendulkar
Hammond
Sobers
Knott
Imran
Hadlee
Garner
Ambrose
...Batting order might be a bit off regarding where Hammond should bat.
Steyn, end career, Hayden was in decline. Ambrose early career, he was not yet the bully he became. I'm not sure these statements hold much weight. But I could put Trumper in, just as easily, who you can not make any statements against as none of the bowlers he faced will be playing.Hayden will do ok against Hadlee I imagine as medium pace didn't bother him.
But the times he faced quality higher pace bowlers at home, Ambrose early career, Shoaib mid-career and Steyn end career, he struggled.
That's a good point, so long as one of Ambrose, or Holding is happy taking the used ball.Fair enough. Garner is too similar to Ambrose for me but a yard slower. Holding has the fear factor.
