That was a disgrace indeed. How on earth they allowed one team to play a series there... it was no longer a so-called 'neutral' final, also considering how they prepared a green top, which India batted 1st on. Everything was stacked in favor of one team by ECB, as a payback for robbing them of 2019 ODI WC title.Wellington 2020, how is scoring 165 and conceding a 180 run lead a par first innings performance.
WTC final was a farce since NZ had just played a series there. Plus it is more logical to blame Bumrah for going wicketless both innings, and Pant could have been more mature. Kohli also could have batted better.
It just shouldn't be allowed. What's the point of having a neutral final in the first place if teams started doing that?I think it was silly that India did not try to play some series before the WTC in England. I am pretty sure they could have worked out deals with some counties and had SL or some other board who need the money over to play a couple of tests.
Nah, you can prepare however you want. Both sides had the opportunity to do so with ample notice. It just shouldn't be allowed. What's the point of having a neutral final in the first place if teams started doing that?
It should never be in one location. Thats what further detracts from it. Already the matches and series are quite imbalanced. Big 3 are playing way more matches against quality opponents, while the rest are playing more matches vs the rest. Moreover, 1-2 teams get given an easy route to the final everytime. It's hardly a fair tournament tbh.Nah, you can prepare however you want. Both sides had the opportunity to do so with ample notice.
It’s the richest board in the world against a team who makes losses on tests ffs.
What sucks is it’s always in England where no Asian side will have an advantage should they make it there.
And there was no ample notice, teams only qualified in the final few months.Nah, you can prepare however you want. Both sides had the opportunity to do so with ample notice.

Agreed I always wondered why the management didn't take the final and it's prep more seriously.@centurymaker most of your criticism is valid but I am with @Daemon here. BCCI still had the chance to ensure we got the same advantage NZ did and decided to do nothing.
How is it a fault of their own making in that case though? You think BCCI should have arm twisted ICC to have it held in Dubai?I’d say even after adequate preparation NZ would still have an inherent advantage because of conditions, just like India would if the game was in Delhi or something. That’s just too bad for India and a fault of their own making, but the advantage exists.
Yeah no looks like you have no idea what you're talking aboutCan’t imagine it’d be too difficult to organise a quick game with Ireland
Just do the groundwork in anticipation and scrap if you don’t make the finals (or go ahead regardless even)
These guys moved an entire IPL overseas at the last minute but this is too difficult? Give me a break.
At bare minimum send the players over earlier and play more tour games.
Our fault because we kinda suck at playing in those conditions. How is it a fault of their own making in that case though? You think BCCI should have arm twisted ICC to have it held in Dubai?
Why did you change emojis midway through your post? Are people suddenly forgetting here what just preceded the finals? How the heck was BCCI going to do anything about WTC when it was peak Covid in India, FFS the IPL had to be cancelled/postponed midway. In fact had the pandemic not been brought slightly under control (in India) there wouldn't have been a final in the first place!
Yeah no looks like you have no idea what you're talking about
The WTC was a farce anyway because the conditions heavily favored one side, not just their prep but also that they didn't even play a spinner! Neutral venue my **** ?
Nah... that then implies other teams dont. Its not fair at all.Our fault because we kinda suck at playing in those conditions.
India overperformed in the WTC final. They managed to take NZ to the 6th day.I agree with the examples you have given. But there are also examples where India under him performed well in crucial matches(tho none as crucial as WTC final). But if you look at the context at some of the matches you mentioned, India’s defeats(like SA 2022 third test) can’t be purely blamed on Kohli’s excessive intensity.
Is it going to always be in England? It should be moved around. What sucks is it’s always in England where no Asian side will have an advantage should they make it there.
Good point about the IPL being postponed actually (though not one in your favour). Are people suddenly forgetting here what just preceded the finals? Not at all. Ajaz hardly plays and Santner wasn't in the final 15 man squad. The WTC was a farce anyway because the conditions heavily favored one side, not just their prep but also that they didn't even play a spinner! Neutral venue my **** ?
That's because NZ pitches have progressively become worse for spinners in the last 10-15 years! Among major test nations their reversal is probably the most striking. Not at all. Ajaz hardly plays and Santner wasn't in the final 15 man squad.
Nope, the Covid cases started surging sometime around March & that went on for about 2-4 months. This led to strained resources throughout the country & in fact one of the major sticking point at the time was players getting multiple jabs in the IPL whilst the general public had to wait & many died as a result. Ashwin withdrew due to his family(immediate?) members getting infected & that had a domino effect throughout the tournament.Good point about the IPL being postponed actually (though not one in your favour).
IPL was originally scheduled to end around the first week of June, just 10 days or so before the WTC final. Perfect preparation and totally enough time to acclimatise for the final.
The fact that it was postponed was a blessing as it allowed the team a bit more time to rest and prepare.
